Position Overview:


The Director of Technical Sales is a senior leadership position responsible for driving the overall technical sales strategy and performance for Spirit’s engineering services, MIL-STD testing, and circuit card assembly solutions. This role requires a unique blend of technical expertise, strategic vision, and business acumen to lead the technical sales team in delivering complex solutions to Spirit’s aerospace and defense customers. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in expanding Spirit’s market presence, fostering key customer relationships, and aligning Spirit’s technical capabilities with market demands to drive sustainable growth.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and execute comprehensive technical sales strategies aligned with the company’s overall business objectives and growth targets
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of technical sales representatives and managers, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with C-level executives to define sales goals, revenue targets, and key performance indicators for the technical sales division
  • Oversee the entire sales cycle for major accounts and strategic opportunities, from prospect identification to contract negotiation and closure
  • Build and maintain relationships with top-tier customers, industry partners, and key decision-makers in the aerospace and defense sector
  • Work closely with Engineering, Corporate Sales, and Operations to ensure alignment between sales strategies and Spirit’s technical capabilities
  • Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies to identify new business opportunities and inform service development strategies
  • Develop and implement innovative sales methodologies and best practices to improve team efficiency and effectiveness
  • Collaborate with Marketing to create compelling value propositions and go-to-market strategies for Spirit’s technical products and services
  • Oversee the preparation and presentation of complex technical proposals and contract negotiations for high-value strategic accounts
  • Monitor and report on sales performance metrics, providing regular updates to senior leadership
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, export control laws, and company policies across all sales activities
  • Represent the company at high-level industry events, conferences, and trade shows to enhance Spirit’s market visibility and generate strategic partnerships
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve sales processes, customer experience, and overall business performance


Requirements:

  • 15+ years of technical sales experience within the aerospace and defense industry, with at least 7 years in senior management roles
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred
  • Proven track record of consistently exceeding sales targets and driving significant revenue growth in a B2B or government sales environment
  • Deep understanding of microelectronics, semiconductors, EEE components, and their applications in aerospace and defense systems
  • Comprehensive knowledge of MIL-STD testing procedures, engineering services, and supply chain logistics in the aerospace and defense sector
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams
  • Excellent strategic thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to translate market insights into actionable sales strategies
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence decisions at the executive level
  • Experience in managing complex, long-cycle sales processes and large-scale contract negotiations
  • Proficiency in CRM systems, ERP systems, sales analytics tools, financial modeling, and MS office, especially Excel
  • Familiarity with government contracting processes, defense acquisition procedures, and relevant industry regulations
  • Willingness to travel for customer meetings, industry events, and business development activities
