Job Title: Payroll Assistant
Position Type: Contract / Onsite
Pay Range: $28 – $30/hour (W2)
Location: New York, NY 10004
Schedule
- Monday to Friday (08:00 AM TO 04:00 PM)
- 35 hours per week
- 7 hours per day
- 1-hour unpaid lunch
- Onsite role
Required Education & Qualifications (Mandatory)
- High School Diploma or GED (REQUIRED)
- Minimum 2 years of experience in payroll and timekeeping (REQUIRED)
Required Skills & Experience (Mandatory)
- Payroll processing for hourly and salaried employees
- Time and attendance tracking and audit experience
- Handling overtime, shift differentials, holiday pay, and premium pay calculations
- Experience reconciling payroll discrepancies and adjustments
- Leave and absence tracking (Sick, FMLA, Annual, etc.)
- Strong knowledge of payroll compliance and timekeeping policies
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and confidentiality
Technical Skills (Required)
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Payroll/timekeeping systems experience (preferred):
- Oracle
- PeopleSoft
- QuickBooks
- PayChoice / Payroll Associates
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience with large workforce payroll processing
- Knowledge of union contracts and public sector payroll
- Experience handling garnishments, taxes, and year-end payroll activities
- Strong analytical skills for retro pay calculations
- HR/Payroll system experience in enterprise environments
Job Responsibilities
- Review and audit employee timesheets for accuracy and compliance
- Monitor time entries, missed punches, and scheduling exceptions
- Ensure supervisor approvals before payroll deadlines
- Process payroll adjustments and corrections
- Track leave balances and ensure correct coding of absences
- Support payroll compliance and audit requirements
- Maintain documentation for payroll transactions
- Provide support for garnishments, deductions, and payroll reporting
- Coordinate with HR/Finance teams on timekeeping issues
