Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced travel RN for an ICU position in Rapid City, SD, requiring a minimum of 2 years of ICU experience, Epic proficiency, and TNCC certification.
Details
- Mixed ICU unit encompassing MICU, SICU, CICU, and TICU across 39 beds
- Complex patient population including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases, with diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma
- Cardiac experience (CABG/TAVR, 24–48 hrs post-op) is preferred but not required
- Patient ratios are acuity-dependent: 1:1, 1:2, or rarely 1:3
- Charting system: Epic (required); Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter) and Omnicell also in use
- 12-hour day shifts, 48 hours per week
- Every other weekend rotation
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating is uncommon but possible to any adult floor, including Med/Surg or Tele, at a 1:4 ratio
Requirements
- Active RN license — South Dakota (SD) state or Compact license required
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be obtained prior to start)
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (excluding travel experience) strongly preferred; candidates with at least 1.5 years of ICU experience plus significant RN experience outside of ICU may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Epic EMR experience required
- Proficiency with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry
- Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
- Strong critical thinking, assessment skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, all-critical-patient environment
- Two professional references dated within the past year required for consideration
- DOB and SSN required for consideration
Additional Information
- Candidates must reside at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible
- First-time travelers are not eligible; a minimum of one prior travel assignment is required
- Former permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning in a travel capacity
- Unit support includes 1–2 CNAs per unit plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, a resource nurse (staffing dependent), 24/7 Respiratory Therapy, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, and ICU CRNs for midline placement
- Physician coverage includes 3 intensivists on days and 2 intensivists plus an APP on nights
- Orientation consists of a hospital orientation, one 12-hour shift, and one 8-hour shift in the ICU
- No RTO during holidays or the Sturgis Bike Rally (first 3 weeks of August); up to 7 days of RTO may be approved otherwise, provided the full 13-week contract is fulfilled
- Navy scrubs required
