The Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) at FYZICAL is responsible for leading, developing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s compliance programs to ensure adherence to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations, as well as internal policies related to healthcare services. The CCO ensures that FYZICAL’ s practices align with ethical standards and promote a culture of compliance, integrity, and quality patient care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Compliance Program Leadership:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive corporate compliance program for FYZICAL’s clinics and franchise operations, ensuring adherence to applicable healthcare laws (e.g., HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute).
- Monitor regulatory changes and provide updates and guidance to leadership on the potential impact of these changes.
- Design and manage ongoing compliance audits, assessments, and investigations to identify risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Oversee the development and implementation of company-wide policies and procedures related to compliance and ethics.
Training and Communication:
- Develop and implement compliance training programs for all employees, including leadership, clinicians, and support staff, ensuring understanding and adherence to regulatory requirements.
- Communicate compliance-related topics clearly and effectively to the entire organization, fostering a culture of compliance.
Monitoring and Enforcement:
- Ensure the consistent application of compliance standards across all clinics and departments.
- Investigate compliance-related complaints or potential violations and recommend corrective actions or disciplinary measures.
- Oversee the process for identifying, investigating, and resolving any compliance issues, including self-reporting to governmental bodies when necessary.
Collaboration and Advisory:
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, Compliance Committee, executive team, and Board of Directors on all compliance and regulatory matters.
- Collaborate with clinical and operational leadership to ensure compliance with FYZICAL's clinical practices, especially related to physical therapy, balance therapy, and related healthcare services.
- Coordinate with legal counsel and external consultants, as necessary, to address complex compliance matters.
Risk Management and Reporting:
- Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential areas of vulnerability and risk within the organization.
- Develop action plans for compliance and risk mitigation efforts.
- Provide regular reports to the CEO, Compliance Committee, and Board of Directors on the status of compliance initiatives, identified risks, and corrective actions.
- Maintain and manage the anonymous whistleblower hotline for reporting compliance concerns.
HIPAA and Privacy Oversight:
- Serve as the organization’s HIPAA Privacy Officer, overseeing the development and implementation of policies related to patient privacy and the protection of sensitive health information.
- Ensure compliance with all data protection regulations and address any data breaches in accordance with legal requirements.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Leads by example and exhibits teamwork while promoting the core philosophy of FYZICAL.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, law, business, or a related field (Master's or Juris Doctorate preferred).
Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in healthcare compliance, with a strong understanding of physical therapy practices. Previous leadership experience in a compliance role within a healthcare organization. Professional certifications such as CHC (Certified in Healthcare Compliance) or CHPC (Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance) preferred.
Skills and Abilities: In-depth knowledge of healthcare regulations, compliance laws, and ethical standards. Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire a culture of compliance throughout the organization. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clinical staff, executives, and regulators. Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
EXPECTED WORK HOURS
Monday through Friday, 8.00am-5.00pm. Some night and weekend work may be required.
