Position Summary

The Certified Medication Aide (CMA) is responsible for assisting with the administration of medications to residents in accordance with their care plan and applicable state regulations. The CMA ensures the highest level of safety, accuracy, and dignity for residents, while supporting their overall health and well-being in a compassionate assisted living environment.

Key Responsibilities

Medication Administration

  • Administers prescribed medications to residents accurately and in a timely manner.

  • Document medication administration in accordance with facility policies and state regulations.

  • Verify medications and dosages against resident care plans and physician orders.

  • Observe residents for adverse reactions or side effects and report any concerns to the nurse or designated supervisor.

Resident Care

  • Assist residents with daily living activities as needed, including personal care, ambulation, and meals.

  • Provide emotional support and build positive relationships with residents to promote their mental and physical well-being.

  • Monitor residents' health conditions and report changes to the nursing team.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of individual care plans.

Compliance & Safety

  • Adhere to all state and federal regulations regarding medication administration and assisted living standards.

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records for medication administration and resident care.

  • Ensure proper storage and handling of medications, including controlled substances.

  • Follow infection control protocols and facility safety policies.

  • Reports to: Director of Nursing/Resident Care Coordinator

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Work closely with the nursing team, caregivers, and other staff to ensure coordinated and quality care for residents.

  • Participate in shift handovers, staff meetings, and training sessions.

  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff members.

Qualifications

  • Certification: Must hold a current Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification in the state of Ohio.

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Experience: Prior experience in assisted living, long-term care, or healthcare settings preferred.

  • Skills:

    • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow precise instructions.

    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    • Compassionate and empathetic demeanor.

    • Ability to handle emergencies calmly and effectively.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods during a shift.

  • Must be able to lift or move up to 50 pounds, with assistance as needed.

  • Perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, and assisting residents with mobility.
