Housing Navigator

Hybrid Remote/In-Person Full-Time Position in multiple locations (Non-Exempt)

Reports To: Housing Program Manager

Ruby's Place dba Restorative Pathways (RP) is an innovative nonprofit committed to ending domestic violence, human trafficking, and violent crime through hope, advocacy and connection. Our services include emergency shelter, transitional housing, rental subsidies, mental health services, and wrap around services. All our services are trauma-sensitive and client-centered and are provided at no cost to our clients. There are no barriers to participate in our programs.

Who You Are

As the housing navigator, you have a strong commitment to support survivors of violence to access transitional and permanent housing. You will work with community landlords to secure units for clients. Coordinates with the Housing Case Manager to help each client develop and implement an individualized case management housing plan designed to promote independence and self-sufficiency. This position will be conducting external community outreach, working with landlords, and working with the Housing Manager to formulate internal policies and procedures. You are required to work both collaboratively and independently. You are adept at time management and highly organized with a proven ability to ensure you can meet deadlines, plan, organize and execute.

  • Holding a Bachelors degree or equivalent experience (3 years) in human services, psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience in leasing coordination and will have worked with landlords or in low-income housing.
  • Experience working with diverse homeless communities or victims of domestic violence.
  • Experienced in working in domestic violence, human trafficking and/or homeless settings, providing housing services.
  • Understanding of the dynamics of trauma-informed care, as well as an understanding of, and sensitivity to, serving diverse populations as it relates to family dynamics and other aspects of cultural practice.
  • Flexible, proactive and open to learning.
  • Knowledge of community resources, community based organizations, social services, and specifically housing agencies and programs that offer services to our clients.
  • Holding The State mandated 40-hour Domestic Violence and Human Trafficking counselor certification (this can be scheduled after hire).
  • In possession of a valid CA driver's license, proof of insurance, and be approved by RP insurance as a driver in order to drive agency vehicles. If a staff member cannot be approved by RP insurance as a driver, employment might not be able to continue. Instances where staff cannot be approved to drive will be reviewed on a case by case basis to determine if employment can continue in their role without driving agency vehicles. Items considered include but are not limited to: the shift the staff member holds and the frequency/necessity of driving during that shift, the amount of time before the staff member may be approved to drive by the insurance carrier, the availability of other staff on site to drive agency vehicles as program needs require, etc.
  • Able to complete a background check, fingerprinting (Live Scan), and completion of all Community Care Licensing requirement documents. Able to meet all licensing requirements of Community Care Licensing.

Previous work in domestic violence, human trafficking and/or homeless settings providing housing services is preferred. The Navigator will possess an understanding of the dynamics of trauma-informed care, as well as an understanding of, and sensitivity to, serving diverse populations as it relates to family dynamics and other aspects of cultural practice. Must be flexible, proactive and open to learning. Must also possess a thorough knowledge of community resources, community based organizations, social services, and specifically housing agencies and programs that offer services to our clients. The anticipated start date for this position is early February 2023. You will report to the Associate Housing Director.

Responsibilities include

  1. Conduct landlord outreach to secure affordable housing units/ rooms to rent for RP clients.
  2. Work with the Housing Case Manager and clients to ensure housing applications are accurate and submitted to proper housing personnel.
  3. Work with the administrative team to develop an educational presentation for local

county housing providers.

  2. Work with landlords on tenant agreements, leasing paperwork, unit inspection
  3. agreements, and move-ins.
  4. Help with delivery for client rent checks.
  5. Help mitigate any landlord client issues.
  6. Attend housing meetings with Housing Manager, House Case Managers and other staff.
  7. Provide individual crisis intervention and peer counseling services as needed.
  8. Maintain accurate records that document performance targets and outcomes on online reporting platforms..
  9. Fill out a functional timesheet by assigned due dates, in compliance with the time allocations.
  10. Actively participate in reflective supervision
  11. Create and maintain documentation of processes and procedures in relation to duties of the job
  12. Other duties as assigned by your supervisor

Working Conditions

This position is eligible for hybrid in person & remote work. Hours for this position will include working Monday through Friday during business hours. Time spent on-site versus remote working will be discussed and agreed upon with your supervisor. You are expected to be availableon-site as necessary given business needs. You must be able to stand for long periods of time and perform physical activities, including lifting up to 25 pounds. You will be subject to frequent interruptions and must be able to multitask and handle stress. Local travel in the greater Bay Area may be required.

The pay scale for the Housing Navigator is $30 per hour. This is a full-time, hourly position. This is a hybrid position (flex work), with some days required in our Castro Valley Office. Applicants must be located in the greater Bay Area.
