Wanco Inc. is seeking a Powder Coating Painter in our Arvada, CO production facility.
Summary:
The Powder Coating Painter at Wanco is responsible for applying high-quality powder coating to various metal surfaces. This position involves surface preparation, coating application, quality control, and adherence to safety standards. The Powder Coating Painter should have a strong attention to detail, knowledge of powder coating techniques, and the ability to work effectively in a team.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Coating Application:
· Apply powder paint using electrostatic guns, and other specialized coating equipment, ensuring even coverage and desired thickness.
· Operate, clean, and maintain coating equipment as instructed.
· Assure proper procedures are followed throughout coating process including equipment grounding, drying, coating, and curing to achieve optimal coating.
· Perform related duties and responsibilities as directed by the department supervisor/manager.
2. Quality Control:
· Identify and prevent coating issues due to surface defects.
· Report metal surface imperfections - rust, oxidation, or other contaminants before applying paint.
· Remove old paint, rust, and other debris using methods such as sandblasting, power tools, or chemical cleaning as required.
· Inspect coated surfaces to ensure adherence to specifications, proper film thickness, and absence of defects.
· Perform visual inspections and use measurement tools like thickness gauges to verify coating quality.
· Understand and utilize test methods such as cross-hatch, datapad, etc. to assure optimal coating application.
· Make adjustments or reapply coatings as necessary to meet quality standards and project requirements.
3. Safety and Compliance:
· Follow safety protocols and guidelines to protect personal and team members' health.
· Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during all stages of surface preparation and coating application.
· Adhere to environmental regulations, including the proper handling and disposal of coating materials and waste.
4. Continuous Improvements:
· Maintain equipment through the preventative maintenance schedule, including change of air filters, 5S methods, hose inspection, etc.
· Implement continuous improvements to reduce waste, improve value flow, and assure quality application of powder for various metal types.
· Maintain accurate records of preventative maintenance, coating materials used, surface preparation methods, and application techniques.
· Prepare reports on project progress, including coating specifications, timeframes, and any issues or challenges encountered.
· Communicate effectively with supervisors, and team members, regarding project updates, timelines, and requirements.
Qualifications and Skills:
· High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in industrial painting or coatings application is preferred.
· Proven experience as a steel coating painter or similar role, with knowledge of surface preparation techniques and coating application methods.
· Familiarity with various types of coatings, including epoxy, TGIC powder, and other protective coatings used in the steel industry.
· Proficient in using painting tools, equipment, and measuring instruments.
· Strong attention to detail and ability to work with precision to meet quality standards.
· Knowledge of safety procedures and practices related to painting and coatings application.
· Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and provide project updates.
Requirements and Qualifications
· 2+ years of experience of powder coating in a manufacturing environment
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work with managers to resolve conflicting priorities
Work Experience
· A minimum of 2+ years in a manufacturing environment.
Physical Requirements:
· Mobility to work in a manufacturing setting, including using specialized powder coating equipment, performing PM, and operating a computer.
Shift Monday-Friday 6:00am-4:30pm with some Saturday work
Reporting: This position reports to the Coating Supervisor.
Salary Range: $20-$23
