The Role

The Interior Designer II is a mid-level design professional responsible for contributing to the development of interior environments through all project phases — from concept design to construction administration. This role requires a balance of creativity, technical skills, and project coordination abilities. The designer works both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, under moderate supervision, while capable of mentoring junior staff.


Responsibilities

  • Participate in the conceptual and schematic design process, contributing creative ideas, space planning, and material selection
  • Develop design presentations including mood boards, renderings, finish palettes, and graphic narratives
  • Prepare detailed furniture layouts, finish plans, and interior elevations
  • Assist in maintaining design intent throughout documentation and construction
  • Produce accurate, coordinated, and detailed drawings using Revit or AutoCAD
  • Prepare finish schedules, specifications, and product documentation
  • Coordinate with architectural and engineering teams to ensure design integration
  • Review and redline drawings for quality control and consistency
  • Research and evaluate materials, furnishings, and lighting for performance, sustainability, and budget alignment
  • Prepare and coordinate FF&E packages, including procurement documentation when applicable
  • Understand building codes, ADA requirements, and relevant interior design standards
  • Contribute to cost estimating and value-engineering discussions
  • Accuracy and completeness of documentation
  • Responsiveness to internal and external coordination
  • Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
  • Contribution to project design quality and client satisfaction
  • Engagement in firm culture and mentorship of junior staff

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree/Master’s degree in Interior Design
  • 5+ years of experience in interior design with a proven track record of successful project management
  • Experience within commercial, hospitality, education or other large design sector
  • Software proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD
  • Strong understanding of space planning, construction detailing, materials, codes, and FF&E
  • Photoshop (editing) and InDesign (presentations)

Preferred

  • Working towards NCIDQ Certificate
  • LEED accreditation or similar sustainable design certification
  • Experience with Enscape, Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office; SketchUp and Bluebeam preferred but not required
