Job Title: Aviation Electrician

Job Description

The Aviation Electrician installs, terminates, inspects, and troubleshoots electrical connectors and wiring on complex aircraft systems. This role works from engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, and schematics to perform high-quality electrical installations, testing, and repairs that meet rigorous aerospace and defense standards.

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, and inspect electrical connectors and wiring on aircraft systems and avionics installations.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, technical orders, and process specifications to perform accurate electrical work.
  • Perform continuity checks, insulation resistance testing, and torqueing of electrical connectors to verify proper installation and system integrity.
  • Troubleshoot and repair connector-related issues in avionics and electrical systems, including identifying faults and implementing corrective actions.
  • Route, handle, and secure wire harnesses, including sealing, wrapping, bonding, tying, and closure to aerospace standards.
  • Perform terminations on shielded wire, coaxial cable, and fiber optic wiring in accordance with applicable specifications.
  • Use tooling assemblies, fixtures, and hand and power tools to carry out repairs, modifications, and installations on aircraft electrical systems.
  • Conduct visual, operational, and quality checks on completed work to ensure compliance with aerospace and defense requirements.
  • Adhere strictly to safety protocols, quality procedures, and documented work instructions while working on aircraft platforms.
  • Work independently or as part of a team to complete assigned tasks within established schedules and program milestones.
  • Support overtime, and work across multiple shifts, weekends, and holidays as required to meet operational needs.
  • Collaborate with engineering and technical staff, particularly on complex troubleshooting and modification activities.
  • For advanced-level roles, lead small teams of technicians, provide guidance and mentoring, and serve as a technical resource on connector and wiring issues.

Essential Skills

  • 5–7 years of relevant experience in avionics or electrical connector work for Level II roles.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in avionics or electrical systems with advanced connector expertise for Level III roles.
  • Strong electrical aptitude and hands-on experience with aircraft electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with MIL-SPEC connectors and aerospace wiring standards.
  • Experience with wire harness routing, handling, and securement on aircraft.
  • Experience with connector terminations, including shielded wire, coaxial cable, and fiber optic wiring termination.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
  • Ability to interpret technical orders and process specifications and apply them accurately to work performed.
  • Capability to perform sealing, wrapping, bonding, tying, and closure of wire harnesses and related assemblies.
  • Proficiency in using tooling assemblies, fixtures, and a variety of hand and power tools for electrical repair and modification.
  • Ability to perform visual, operational, and quality checks to validate workmanship and system performance.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety and adherence to established procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and follow detailed instructions in a high-compliance environment.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills in avionics and aircraft electrical systems.
  • Experience with aircraft modification or depot-level maintenance.
  • Experience with military or commercial aircraft platforms.
  • Ability to work across multiple shifts and support weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
  • Active or maintainable Secret security clearance, with the ability to hold or maintain the required Interim Secret clearance.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Prior experience working on Boeing platforms or VC program aircraft.
  • Experience with avionics installation and aircraft modification projects.
  • Knowledge and understanding in aviation electronics, avionics, and aircraft electrical wiring.
  • Familiarity with wiring schematics, wiring diagrams, and aircraft wiring repair practices.
  • Experience with soldering and electrical repair on aircraft systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in troubleshooting and mentoring junior technicians, particularly for advanced roles.
  • Ability to lead small technical teams and interface effectively with engineering staff.
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 or equivalent certification in cable and wire harness assembly.
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with complex assemblies and fixtures.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams in a hangar environment.

Work Environment

Work takes place inside an aircraft hangar at an operational airfield facility, focusing on modification and maintenance of large aircraft platforms. The role follows a Monday–Thursday schedule from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with voluntary overtime available to support program needs. The environment is hands-on and tool-intensive, involving regular use of hand and power tools, tooling assemblies, and fixtures around aircraft structures. Work is performed in a controlled hangar setting with strict adherence to safety, security, and quality protocols, and requires maintaining an active Secret clearance. Technicians may be asked to support multiple shifts as well as weekend and holiday work depending on operational demands.

This is a Contract position based out of San Antonio, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
