Job Description
Parkside Pet Hospital is hiring a versatile and energetic Front Floater to support our new small animal practice. This cross-trained role combines front desk reception with hands-on clinical assistance, allowing you to float between the reception area and exam rooms as needed. You’ll step in during high-demand periods, such as hectic mornings, lunch breaks, or evening rushes to keep patient flow smooth, reduce wait times, and deliver outstanding client service. As the go-to team member for flexible coverage, you’ll help prevent bottlenecks, ensure a consistently friendly front desk presence, and contribute to the compassionate, high-quality care our clients and pets expect.
Key Responsibilities
- Front Desk Support: Greet clients and pets warmly, manage check-in/check-out, handle high-volume phone calls, schedule appointments, update records, process payments, and communicate clearly about services, treatments, and estimates.
- Clinical/Exam Room Support: Float into exam rooms to assist veterinarians and technicians by handling/restraining animals safely during exams or procedures, preparing for appointments, and supporting efficient patient throughput.
- Discharge & Client Education Support: Help with patient discharges, especially during busy evenings, by reviewing discharge instructions, providing pet care education, answering questions, and ensuring clients leave informed and satisfied.
- Maintain a clean, organized reception, waiting area, and exam rooms while floating to wherever the team needs the most help.
- Collaborate across the hospital team to manage arrivals, calls, and procedures with positivity and efficiency.
- Assist with retail sales, client communications (phone, email, text, portal), and other administrative tasks as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience in veterinary reception, veterinary assisting, customer service, or a medical office is preferred (training provided for the right candidate).
- Comfortable handling and restraining small animals safely and compassionately.
- Strong multitasking skills in a fast-paced, sometimes emotional environment.
- Excellent communication, empathy, and a genuine passion for animals and people.
- Proficient with computers and quick to learn practice management software.
- Reliable, team-oriented, and flexible with scheduling (including some weekends/evenings if needed).
- Positive attitude and ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities.
