Welding Technical Lead -- Structural Steel Fabrication

As our Welding Technical Lead, you’ll combine hands-on mastery with coaching, producing AWS D1.1–compliant welds on steel tubing, plate, and structural components while developing the next generation of welders on the floor.
Your impact
- Translate prints and symbols into efficient plans for joint prep, fit-up, and weld sequence.
- Configure GMAW/GTAW parameters, gases, and fixtures; execute full-penetration structural welds.
- Finish, inspect, and verify dimensional accuracy, bead profile, and weld integrity.
- Author, refine, and document WPS to AWS D1.1 standards.
- Coach junior welders in technique, setup, and safe, productive practices.
- Partner across fabrication, quality, and engineering to meet schedule and CI targets.
- Uphold 5S/OSHA expectations and step in for overtime or special assignments as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; technical/vocational welding education preferred.
- 3–5 years of structural or production welding experience in fab/manufacturing.
- AWS D1.1 Structural Steel certification (or ability to re-certify at hire).
- Demonstrated MIG (GMAW) on carbon steel; TIG (GTAW) on thin-gauge steel or aluminum.
- Proficiency in flat, horizontal, and vertical welding with code-level quality.
- Expertise in weld joint design, fit-up, and distortion management.
- Strong blueprint/symbol reading; fluent in metric and imperial measurement.
- Fabrication fundamentals: cutting, layout, grinders, saws, and hand tools.
- Communication, time management, teamwork, safety mindset, and continuous improvement orientation.
Core proficiencies & equipment
- You should be proficient in: Tape Measure Reading; Blueprint Reading
- Machines & technologies you'll use: MIG Welder; TIG Welder

- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and stand for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity for precision welding.
- Tolerance for heat, noise, and metal-fume environment (PPE provided).
Shop environment
Work in a climate-controlled facility. At times you’ll be near moving mechanical equipment, fumes or airborne particles, and certain chemicals. Noise levels are generally moderate. PPE is typically not required; however, for tasks that require it, we provide PPE and its use is mandatory.
