RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB ACTIVITIES:
1. Plan purchases to maximize volume discounts and minimize freight costs with primary emphasis on meeting quality standards and production schedules.
2. Establish and maintain long-term vendor relationships with reliable suppliers of high quality products. Negotiate terms and discounts.
3. Research new suppliers when appropriate.
4. Order appropriate levels of packaging to meet production schedule/customer commitments and assist in qualifying replacements in case of shortages.
5. Provide suppliers with regular forecasts to enhance their ability to deliver on time.
6. Review and update packaging sizes and art-work changes.
7. Work with sales/marketing to design and create new packaging as requested.
8. Obtain quotes from suppliers for new packaging.
9. Communicate and coordinate changes in orders such as quantities and delivery dates with the Production Control Supervisor.
10. Negotiate price changes with suppliers and report adjustments to internal stakeholders on a regular basis.
11. Help develop and prepare regular performance metrics for the department.
12. Address quality issues with suppliers and coordinate resolutions with all affected parties.
13. Evaluate sustainability of purchases to help meet corporate responsibility goals and reduce disposal costs.
14. Review, organize and improve files for material specs.
15. Work collectively and continuously to identify short- and long-term cost reduction opportunities with clear accountability for implementation.
16. Must be able to work honestly and with integrity.
17. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION Bachelor’s degree in supply chain or similar; ISM and/or APICS certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE At least five years of previous packaging buying experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES Effective written and verbal communication skills, strong math skills, extreme attention to detail, and the ability to work with little supervision. Must keep accurate reports and have good computer skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word Perfect or similar programs. Experience with IFS is a plus.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED Standard office equipment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Hand-eye coordination for typing. Ability to sit for long periods of time
