Job Description

Senior Tax Preparer - Established Dallas CPA Firm

Confidential Opportunity | Dallas, TX | Remote

CONFIDENTIAL – Senior Tax Preparer / Reviewer

Boutique Dallas CPA firm focused on high‑net‑worth individuals and their closely held entities (partnerships, S corps, C corps, trusts, gifts).

Remote‑first with a collaborative team, strong client relationships, and a clear long‑term leadership path (5–6 year horizon).

What you’ll do

  • Prepare complex individual (1040), partnership (1065), S corp (1120S), C corp (1120), trust (1041), and gift (709) returns.
  • Handle HNW client returns with multiple K‑1s, QBI, and Section 163(j) calculations.
  • Prepare K‑2/K‑3, partner and shareholder basis, at‑risk, tax basis capital, and 754 elections/adjustments.
  • Perform tax projections and planning and communicate directly with sophisticated HNW clients.
  • Review returns prepared by staff during peak periods to support workflow.
  • Use QuickBooks Desktop/Online to review client books and make adjustments.
  • Manage multiple client engagements, deadlines, and priorities in a remote environment.

What we’re looking for

  • CPA with strong public accounting tax background; typically 8–10+ years, but “right experience” with similar clients is more important than years.
  • Deep partnership and S corporation taxation experience (basis, at‑risk, tax basis capital, special allocations, 754, transfers).
  • Strong technical skills in complex individual tax issues, QBI, 163(j), K‑2/K‑3, and fixed assets (tangible property regs, farm, R&D).
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and Online.
  • Excellent communication skills, high attention to detail, and ability to work independently while staying connected to a remote team.
  • Experience with HNW clients, reviewing others’ work, trusts/estates, and multistate compliance is a plus.

Schedule, comp, and environment

  • Location: Dallas area preferred; primarily remote with flexibility to be in the office as needed.
  • Hours: Off‑season ~40 hours; tax/extension seasons generally 50–55 hours, with up to ~55–60 in the final weeks; roughly 3 months/year with overtime total.
  • Flexible scheduling as long as work is delivered professionally and you are responsive during core hours; two Teams meetings per week for collaboration.
  • Compensation: Base salary target $90,000–$110,000 plus annual bonus and long‑term growth into leadership as part of partner succession planning.
  • Culture: Supportive, stable firm, business‑casual, high‑touch client service, and the ability to “hit the ground running” on complex work in a remote‑first setting.
