Para la Naturaleza is a nonprofit environmental organization based in Puerto Rico and we are seeking an Alliances and Collaborations Coordinator to join our team. This position plays a key role in developing, formalizing, and energizing strategic institutional alliances at the local, national, international, and Caribbean levels, grounded in reciprocity and, socio-ecological justice. The Coordinator ensures effective cross-unit implementation, monitoring, and sustainability of these partnerships.

The Alliances and Collaborations Coordinator leads the articulation of institutional partnerships across sectors—including government agencies, NGOs, universities, networks, and regional or international coalitions—and supports the evolution of collaborative initiatives into formal strategic agreements. This role requires strong relational skills, strategic thinking, and a deep commitment to Para la Naturaleza’s mission and values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate strategic institutional alliances across interagency, intersectoral, and interunit contexts, facilitating collaboration as partnerships evolve into formal agreements.
  • Facilitate the co-creation of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), Letters of Intent (LOIs), and framework agreements with identified institutions.
  • Maintain and update an institutional registry of alliances, agreements, and commitments.
  • Provide strategic follow-up on alliance performance and coordinate evaluation and renewal processes in collaboration with relevant internal units.
  • Support internal teams in the formulation, review, and renewal of institutional agreements, offering strategic guidance and facilitation.
  • Document and systematize institutional learning derived from strategic alliances, including best practices, challenges, and opportunities for improvement, and share insights to inform decision-making and future collaborations.
  • Convene and facilitate interunit working groups for the design, implementation, and monitoring of institutional agreements.
  • Coordinate with regional teams and internal units to gather technical inputs, validations, and operational components necessary for the development and sustainability of alliances.
  • Represent Para la Naturaleza in strategic forums, networks, and institutional spaces.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Volunteer and Community Relations Coordinator regarding institutional commitments that affect community or volunteer engagement.
  • Support budget planning, monitoring, and recommendations related to the area of work, as requested by the supervisor.
  • Carry out special projects and additional duties related to the position, as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Political Science, Community Management, Communications, Education, or a related field from an accredited institution.

Experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting networks, community alliances, or collaborative processes.
  • Desirable experience working with communities, environmental justice organizations, or intercultural co-creation spaces.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent active listening, relational facilitation, and culturally sensitive communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative work style.
  • Proficiency in collaborative platforms and digital management tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Availability to travel and participate in community meetings, gatherings, and activities outside of traditional work hours, including evenings and weekends.
