Position Title: Surgical Technologist (Operating Room Technician)
Location: New York, NY 10019
Job Type: Contract
Contract Duration: 9 Weeks
Pay Rate:

Local: $60 – $63 per hour (Based on Experience)

Travel: $70 – $78 per hour (Based on Experience)
Shift: Night Shift
Shift Time: 11:00 PM – 7:15 AM
Schedule: 5 Days per Week | Variable Days
Weekly Hours: 37.5 Hours
Position Overview
The Surgical Technologist (Certified Surgical Technologist – CST) supports surgical teams by preparing operating rooms, organizing surgical instruments, and assisting surgeons and nursing staff during procedures. This role requires maintaining strict sterile techniques, anticipating the needs of the surgical team, and ensuring patient safety throughout the perioperative process.
Key ResponsibilitiesSurgical Assistance
-
Perform scrub duties following established sterile and aseptic techniques.

Prepare sterile instrument tables and surgical supplies based on procedure requirements.

Pass instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies to surgeons during procedures.

Anticipate surgical team needs by monitoring procedure progress.

Assist with draping patients and maintaining a sterile operative field.
Operating Room Preparation
-
Prepare operating rooms with appropriate instruments, supplies, and equipment.

Ensure all surgical equipment is properly functioning before procedures.

Assist with positioning patients and adjusting surgical tables and accessories.

Maintain sterile conditions throughout the surgical procedure.
Instrument & Supply Management
-
Maintain accurate counts of surgical instruments, needles, and sponges with the circulating nurse.

Report discrepancies according to facility policy.

Decontaminate equipment and ensure proper reprocessing of instruments.
-
Assist with maintaining organized sterile storage areas.
Patient Safety & Support
-
Assist with patient transport to and from the operating room.
-
Support safe patient positioning and apply restraints when necessary.
-
Remain alert and prepared to respond to emergencies during procedures.

Assist with applying dressings and securing drainage systems.
Medication & Specimen Handling
-
Assist in preparing medications or solutions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Properly label medications at the sterile field when required.

Follow medication safety procedures and announce medications when administered.

Assist with handling and labeling surgical specimens according to established protocols.
Room Turnover & Operational Support
-
Assist with cleaning and preparing the operating room for the next procedure.

Dispose of soiled materials in appropriate containers.

Report equipment issues and supply needs.

Help maintain surgical inventory and preference cards.
Required QualificationsEducation
-
High School Diploma or equivalent required
-
Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Training Program
Certification
-
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification required
Experience
-
Previous Operating Room (OR) experience preferred

Labor & Delivery (L&D) OR experience required
Skills & Competencies

Strong knowledge of surgical instruments and sterile techniques

Ability to maintain strict aseptic practices in the operating room

Excellent communication and teamwork skills
