Job Description

As a Machine Operator, you will be responsible for ensuring that the appropriate mold is in the machine, using the correct batch for the product being run, and verifying that the batch has the correct moisture content. You will also ensure the product is at the correct height and free of cracks or abnormalities.

Responsibilities

  • Set up equipment for production runs according to product or company specifications.
  • Ensure the equipment is operating properly at all times by greasing, checking oil fluid levels, and adding grease and oil as required.
  • Keep the plant and equipment clean and free of excess material.
  • Follow all environmental regulations and clean up any excess material that could cause environmental issues.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties and outside labor as requested, such as cleaning up around the plant and picking up equipment or supplies.
  • Fill in for colleagues at other locations as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with machine operation, mechanical tasks, and forklift operation.
  • Mechanical aptitude and maintenance technician skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in welding, including stick welding and MIG welding.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills both oral and written.
  • Ability to handle multiple competing tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum one year of work experience, preferably in the construction or concrete industry.
  • Proficiency in using a tape measure and hand tools.
  • Welding skills with a cutting torch.

Work Environment

This role involves working outdoors in various weather conditions, with exposure to dust, fumes, and chemicals such as concrete and grease. You will be working in close proximity to moving mechanical parts, with a noise level ranging from moderate to loud. The physical demands include lifting up to 100 pounds and engaging in activities such as climbing, kneeling, and twisting. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 6 PM, with occasional Saturdays as needed.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Roanoke, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
