Job DescriptionOverview of the RN-Surgical Stepdown Role:

The RN-Surgical Stepdown nurse is responsible for delivering patient care through the nursing process, collaborating with various departments, and ensuring the confidentiality of patient information. This position necessitates holding a valid RN license along with essential certifications such as BLS and ACLS. This role involves utilizing the nursing process to deliver effective patient care. The nurse is accountable for the care provided to assigned patients and assesses the overall quality of care delivered by other caregivers. Coordination of patient care with other departments is essential, as is the protection of patient rights and confidentiality. Position Details:Qualifications:

  • Education: Must have graduated from an accredited nursing program (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
  • Licensure: Responsible for obtaining and maintaining a current RN license in the state of employment, adhering to all state board of nursing regulations.
  • Experience: Relevant experience in a nursing role is preferred.
  • Certifications:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or completion of the course within 30 days of hire.
    • Additional certifications may be required based on the specific unit, including but not limited to:
      • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
      • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
      • ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
      • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
      • CPHON (Certified Pediatric/Hematology/Oncology Nurse)
      • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
      • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
      • PEARS (Pediatric Assessment Recognition and Stabilization)
      • S.T.A.B.L.E. (Sugar, Temperature, Airway, Blood Pressure, Lab Work, And Emotional Support)
      • C-EFM (Fetal Monitor Certification)
      • Other unit-specific certifications as necessary.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to regularly push, pull, or lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing and walking are required throughout each shift.
  • Capability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat as needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
