Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented QA Technician - Metrology Operator to support precision dimensional inspection activities within our medical plastic injection molding manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for executing established CMM and CT scanning inspection programs, collecting and analyzing dimensional data, and ensuring components conform to engineering specifications, customer requirements, and regulatory standards.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, quality-driven, and experienced in operating advanced metrology equipment in a regulated manufacturing setting.

Key Responsibilities

Dimensional Inspection & Program Execution

  • Execute established CMM and CT scanner inspection programs to perform dimensional verification of injection molded components and assemblies.
  • Verify part conformance against engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
  • Support in-process, final, and first article inspections as required.

Data Collection, Analysis & Reporting

  • Collect, review, and analyze dimensional measurement data to identify trends, out-of-tolerance conditions, or potential quality risks.
  • Accurately document inspection results in accordance with SOPs, QMS requirements, and customer specifications.
  • Maintain organized and traceable electronic and physical inspection records.

Equipment Care & Verification

  • Perform daily startup checks, verification routines, and basic maintenance for CMM and CT scanning equipment.
  • Ensure measurement equipment is used in accordance with established calibration and verification requirements.
  • Escalate equipment or measurement concerns promptly to Quality or Metrology leadership.

Troubleshooting & Support

  • Identify dimensional nonconformances, measurement anomalies, or potential tooling/process issues.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to support root cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Assist with setup verification, inspection validation activities, and basic program edits under guidance from Quality Engineers or Metrology Specialists.

Quality System & Compliance

  • Perform all activities in compliance with FDA 21 CFR Part 820, ISO 13485, internal procedures, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Follow established change control, documentation, and data integrity practices.

Continuous Improvement & Team Collaboration

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on measurement efficiency, data accuracy, and process capability.
  • Communicate inspection results, trends, and potential risks clearly to cross-functional teams including Engineering, Tooling, and Production.
  • Support a culture of quality, accountability, and compliance.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Technical training or coursework in metrology, quality, precision measurement, or mechanical inspection preferred

Experience

  • 1+ years of experience operating CMMs, CT scanners, or advanced dimensional inspection equipment in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Experience in medical device, plastic injection molding, or regulated manufacturing strongly preferred

Technical Skills

  • Working knowledge of GD&T and dimensional inspection methods
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and 3D CAD models
  • Experience with Zeiss Calypso, PC-DMIS, or similar metrology software is a plus
  • Familiarity with electronic quality systems and inspection documentation
