Our client, a leading manufacturer of commercial and industrial air movement solutions based in Plymouth, MN, is seeking a Mechanical Test Technician to join their laboratory team. This is an excellent opportunity to work hands-on with cutting-edge fan, ventilator, and air-handling equipment in a dynamic testing environment. The Mechanical Test Technician will set up and test product performance according to industry standards to ensure specifications are met. Working under the direction of the Senior Laboratory Technician and/or Supervisor, this role involves hands-on testing, assembly, and evaluation of commercial and industrial air movement equipment in a fast-paced laboratory setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Set up and test various types of commercial and industrial fans, ventilators, and related equipment, evaluating air, sound, and mechanical performance.
- Perform assembly and modification of fans and associated equipment using hand tools, pneumatic tools, electric drills, impact wrenches, welding equipment, grinders, torches, and similar devices.
- Safely operate forklifts and overhead cranes to move, lift, and position materials while following all safety protocols and maintaining awareness of surroundings and load limits.
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, and bills of materials to verify correct parts selection and ensure assemblies are completed accurately and in alignment with design requirements.
- Support the efficient flow of materials through the shipping and receiving department, including loading and unloading trucks, and inspecting, labeling, and processing incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Perform dimensional verification of products according to engineering, manufacturing, and quality standards.
- Inspect, assemble, and set up test units in the UL 705 motor safety testing facility and high-temperature system.
- Wire electric motors to the facility's electrical supply circuits via disconnect switches and conduit boxes.
- Identify root causes of equipment malfunctions and implement effective corrective actions.
- Act with integrity and professionalism consistent with the company's values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 13 years of experience with sheet metal construction techniques, welding, forming, or equivalent.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Ability to occasionally lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to frequently climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach, and stand.
- Ability to work extended hours standing on a concrete floor or sitting at a computer.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Drafting or blueprint experience strongly desired.
- Experience with testing and assembly of mechanical equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in mechanical and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or ISO 17025 quality management systems.
- General computer aptitude.
