Job Responsibilities:
- Performs initial interview with new patients, obtain required information on personal, medical, and dental histories. Responsible for recall of patients.
- Delivers direct patient care according to procedures; performs periodontal charting, cleaning, polishing, x-rays, application of sealants, fluorides, and other routine procedures.
- Prepare, breakdown, disinfect and sterilize treatment rooms and instruments
- Provides chair-side assistance to dentist in the performance of special tests, procedures, and complex treatment.
- Develops and implements individualized dental care plans to patients.
- Performs patient education, discharge planning, and patient/family teaching under the supervision of a qualified dentist.
- Documents dental history of chief complaint; records and reports pertinent observations and patient’s reactions to dental staff as appropriate.
- Perform dental hygiene procedures, including cleaning teeth, applying fluoride treatments, and taking X-rays.
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques and provide recommendations for improving dental health.
- Maintain accurate patient records using dental software system.
- Follow infection control protocols to ensure a safe and clean environment for patients and staff.
- Collaborate with the dental team to provide comprehensive care to patients.
- Evaluates patient schedule daily and works closely with front desk staff to make sure appointments are filled.
- Assists with infection control and sterilization and prepares patient treatment rooms.
- Performs all delegable tasks under the supervision of the dentist, as outlined by the Massachusetts Board of Dentistry.
- Meets with dentist and reviews any problem cases or unusual situations concerning patients.
- Refers patients needing further restorative work or care to dentist.
- May substitute for other staff members, if needed.
- Ensures patient’s charts and records are complete and accurate.
Requirements:
- Valid state dental hygiene license.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
