Summary:
Our client, a government contracting firm, is seeking a hands-on Staff Accountant to support daily accounting operations and month-end close in a fully remote capacity. This role serves as a key operational resource to the VP of Finance, owning transactional accounting and GL maintenance with a strong emphasis on QuickBooks Online. It's a strong fit for an accountant who wants real ownership of the close process and exposure to government contract accounting without the layers of a large corporate environment.
Why It's Worth Your Time
- Work directly alongside the VP of Finance with day-to-day visibility and impact on the accounting function.
- Gain or deepen exposure to government contract accounting, FAR compliance, and WAWF billing workflows.
- Step into a role with genuine ownership — not a support seat buried in a large team.
What You'll Own
- Execute month-end close activities including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts in QuickBooks Online.
- Process accounts payable, accounts receivable, and day-to-day transactional accounting.
- Prepare and upload invoices into Wide Area Workflow (WAWF) for government contract billing.
- Ensure accounting records are accurate, well-documented, and audit-ready.
- Support system cleanup, process improvements, and integration efforts alongside finance leadership and external consultants.
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing supporting documentation and analysis.
Must-Haves
- 2 years of accounting experience with direct involvement in month-end close.
- Hands-on QuickBooks Online proficiency in a live business environment.
- Strong working knowledge of journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and GAAP.
- Experience processing AP, AR, and transactional accounting independently.
- Ability to work autonomously with minimal oversight in a remote setting.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Nice to Have
- Government contracting or GovCon accounting exposure.
- Experience with Wide Area Workflow (WAWF) or similar government billing platforms.
- Familiarity with FAR/DFARS cost accounting standards.
- Experience in union or SCA-related accounting environments.
- Exposure to expense management tools such as Brex or similar platforms.
