Packaging Engineer Co-op

This role reports into our Macedon, NY facility.
WHAT WE NEED
The Packaging Engineer Co-op will be assigned projects that align with their educational track and have a direct result and correlation to the packaging engineering best practices in food manufacturing. The student will work directly with a wide variety of individuals within operations.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- This position will provide Packaging Engineering support for packaging materials and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Responsibilities will range from packaging material specification creation and updating, packaging material line trials and qualification, support investigation of new packaging or changes to existing packaging.
- Responsible for packaging laboratory testing as assigned and analysis of resulting data
- Create and maintain packaging specifications and pallet patterns.
- Prepares packaging trial protocols and reports to support Packaging Engineering team.
- Packaging Engineering Standards: Help to create and implement packaging engineering design guides, test standards and sustainability guidelines.
- Coordinate packaging ship tests per industrial standards and document results with detailed technical reports.
- Willingness to visit and communicate with packaging suppliers.
- Candidate must be hands-on and willing to get intimately involved in packaging operations and interaction with packaging materials.
- Prepare and present final presentation outlining accomplishments during Co-Op.
Required Education:
- Must be enrolled in B.S. in Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering, or related field with at least 3.0 GPA
- Minimum completion of two years of program.
- Preferred previous Packaging Co-op Experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Packaging materials BRF works with – Thermoformed trays, rigid bottles, flexible pouches, corrugated cases, labels, shrink films, induction seals, etc.
- Packaging distribution/supply chain
- Printing/Artwork process of labels and cases
- Need to be able to work a variety of hours to enable data collection across all three shifts (earliest could be 6am, latest could be 8pm).
- Solid educational understanding of data collection and analysis processes.
- Intermediate skills in MS Office – Word, Excel, and Powerpoint
- Excellent project management, organizational, and follow-through skill sets.
- Ability to work autonomously.
- Effective communication skills including the ability to facilitate, present, document, and work in a collaborative work style.
- Due to SQF requirements, must be fluent, writing and speaking, in the English language
