Job Description

A Certified Peer Support Specialist provides support, advocacy, and guidance to individuals navigating mental health and/or substance use challenges. Drawing on personal lived experience, the Peer Support Specialist fosters hope, builds trust, and empowers clients to achieve their recovery goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Build supportive, recovery-focused relationships with clients.
  • Assist clients in developing coping skills, life skills, and wellness strategies.
  • Provide education on mental health, substance use, and community resources.
  • Support clients in navigating systems, including healthcare, housing, and social services.
  • Accompany clients to appointments and community activities as needed.
  • Facilitate peer support groups and individual sessions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure client-centered care.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services provided.

Qualifications:

  • Certification as a Peer Support Specialist (state-specific requirements apply).
  • Personal experience with mental health or substance use recovery and willingness to share insights.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to establish trust and maintain professional boundaries.
  • Familiarity with recovery principles and trauma-informed care.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation purposes.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (preferred).
