Job Description
Routinely operates a continuous or unit set collator based on job ticket instructions. Conducts routine maintenance and makes minor repairs to equipment as necessary.
Responsibilities
- Reviews job folder for special instructions pertaining to any bindery and finishing requirements.
- Primarily responsible for the set-up and operation of a collator, but may be cross-trained on other equipment such as: Encoder, Label Affixer, Rewinder, Folder, Stitcher, Drill (punch).
- Reports production problems and/or errors to identify possible changes in procedures to prevent re-occurrence.
- Ensures equipment maintenance is performed and reports any downtime affecting production schedules and delivery commitments.
- Operates all equipment using proper safety procedures; uses proper lifting techniques; ensures carts and pallets are properly stowed and completes housekeeping on a routine basis.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or general education degree (G.E.D.).
- 15 years of related training and experience with demonstrated competency in the operation of a collator and some of the bindery machines noted above.
Skills
- Language Skills: Ability to read correspondence, memos, technical procedures, and follow job folder instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, customers, and other employees.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems and draw conclusions; interpret a variety of technical instructions; deal with multiple variables.
- Other Skills: Ability to prioritize daily work and projects; multiple operational skills and flexibility are required.
Physical Demands
- Stand and walk for entire shift; frequently stoop, kneel, crouch; routinely lift up to 50 pounds; reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts; occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. Noise level usually moderate. Climate-controlled environment, but may vary during certain weather events.
