Friction Process Operator
Location: Winston-Salem, NC
Department: High Temperature - Friction
Schedule:
4a - 4p: A Shift: S-T/Wed; B Shift: W/Th-Sat.
4p - 4a: C Shift: S-T/Wed; D Shift: W/Th- Sat.
Job Summary:
Operates the furnace/oven equipment. Handles the loading and unloading of furnaces/ovens and equipment operation. Cross trains in other production areas based on business demand.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Reads, interprets, and works to written instructions such as standard task procedures, work orders, work order instructions, supplementary instructions, manufacturer's and customer's specifications, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), safety rules. Must be able to understand and follow verbal instructions.
- Performs loading and unloading operations of furnaces/ovens and equipment, including carbon black insulation repacking, closing furnaces/ovens, cleaning, susceptor removal, and reinstallation.
- Assembles furnace hardware, including the handling of crane operation.
- Conducts MRP transactions, furnace/oven computer log entries.
- Conducts operator maintenance tasks for all furnace/oven equipment in the area. Handles furnace/oven emergency procedures.
- Oversees and handles cooling tower operation and emergency water procedures.
- Starts-up and closes-down all furnace/oven equipment.
- Moves material between operations as required. Uses the appropriate and certifiable equipment for movement of materials.
- Prepares various production, inspection and quality reports, and maintains logs. Knows how to conduct measurement of density and thickness by using computer software.
- Prepares samples for quality and performs other quality inspections such as measuring for thickness, length and weight. Visually inspects material for defects and non-conformities.
- Performs minor maintenance and reports malfunctioning of equipment.
- Actively and effectively participates in work and problem-solving teams. Identifying goals and process improvement opportunities.
- Periodically, operate Hydroclave and Autoclave equipment as necessary by production demands.
- Respond to Hydroclave equipment issues and concerns with Operations Management.and Maintenance.
- Operates CNC equipment to machine in-process parts
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills:
- Ability to read and interpret written documents such as standard task procedures, work orders, work order instructions, supplementary instructions, manufacturer's and customer's specifications, Material Safety Data Sheets, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to understand and follow verbal instructions. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, vendors, and/ or employees of organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, proportions, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Understanding and use of group decision-making techniques, and problem-solving meeting techniques. Ability to function in a team environment.
Education and/or Experience:
- High school graduate or GED plus one-year related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
