Job Description
The Machine Technician sets up, operates, monitors, and troubleshoots production and packaging machinery in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role focuses on ensuring equipment runs efficiently and safely, meeting production specifications, quality standards, and timelines while supporting continuous improvement and food safety practices.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate carton flow and related production equipment according to established procedures and guidelines.
- Adjust machine settings to complete tasks accurately, according to specifications, and within required timeframes.
- Perform periodic checks on equipment to identify issues early and resolve problems as they are detected.
- Complete changeovers from one product format to another efficiently and accurately.
- Perform necessary pre-operation activities to ensure proper startup and operation on multiple pieces of equipment.
- Operate and monitor multiple machines simultaneously to maintain quality production and minimize unplanned downtime.
- Use hand tools to set up packaging lines and make light mechanical adjustments and repairs as needed.
- Perform basic preventive maintenance on packaging machines and assist in troubleshooting machine-related issues.
- Communicate effectively with team members and support teams to ensure continuous production of the correct product at high quality levels with minimal waste.
- Report food safety and product quality issues promptly to plant leadership.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area around all machines and equipment.
- Follow standardized work procedures and adhere strictly to safe work practices.
- Support and participate in a continuous improvement environment by identifying opportunities to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency.
- Follow current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and all applicable plant policies and procedures.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform light mechanical adjustments and repairs on production and packaging equipment.
- Ability to set up, operate, and monitor multiple pieces of machinery in a production or packaging environment.
- Experience performing changeovers on packaging or production lines.
- Ability to troubleshoot packaging lines and resolve basic mechanical and operational issues.
- Basic preventive maintenance skills on machinery and equipment.
- Proficiency with basic hand tools for machine setup and adjustment.
- Basic math skills to support machine setup, adjustments, and production documentation.
- Basic computer skills to operate equipment interfaces and complete required documentation.
- Ability to read, speak, and write English fluently.
- Commitment to following current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs) and standardized work procedures.
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality, safety, and minimizing waste.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Spanish language fluency and/or knowledge is a plus.
- Prior experience in a production, packaging, or manufacturing environment is beneficial.
- Experience working in a food manufacturing environment and familiarity with food safety standards is an advantage.
- Comfort working in a continuous improvement culture, contributing ideas to improve processes, safety, and efficiency.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with team members and support functions.

Work Environment
This role operates on 2nd shift, typically from 2:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., within a food manufacturing facility that follows strict Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). The environment is fast-paced and production-focused, with regular interaction with automated and mechanical packaging and production equipment. The facility enforces strict hygiene and safety standards, including a no jewelry and no make-up policy on the production floor. Team members work closely with others on the line, communicate frequently to maintain smooth operations, and adhere to all safety, cleanliness, and food safety requirements throughout the shift.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Piscataway, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
