Job Summary
We are seeking a Sales Engineer for our Upper Midwest Division. This is a key territory role with a strong mix of existing key accounts and new business development (prospecting/hunting). The ideal candidate is a proactive hunter with experience selling metalworking equipment (CNC, fabrication, or similar) who is comfortable developing new business while managing and growing a solid base of existing accounts. This is not a pure account management role—strong prospecting skills are essential. The role offers significant earning potential in a stable, long-term oriented team environment.
Responsibilities
- Manage and grow a mix of existing key accounts and develop new business within the assigned territory.
- Prospect and hunt for new opportunities to expand the customer base.
- Sell high-ticket CNC machines and metalworking equipment
- Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with customers in manufacturing environments.
- Work both on the road and via phone-based sales activities.
- Collaborate closely with a tight-knit sales team and leadership.
- Travel as needed (minimal overnight travel — typically only a handful of nights per month).
Requirements
- Strong prospecting and new business development kills, must be comfortable and proactive in developing new accounts.
- Proven sales experience selling high-ticket items, with the personality and trustworthiness required for complex capital equipment sales.
- Comfortable with a non-traditional, flexible work schedule
- Team player who fits into a stable, collaborative, and close-knit group.
- Willingness and ability to travel within the territory (minimal overnights).
Preferred Requirements
- Direct experience in metalworking CNC machine sales
- Background with direct competitors in the CNC/machine tool industry
- Experience as a machine operator, programmer, or other technical role in metalworking with a strong sales personality.
- Territory or account experience in manufacturing
- Candidates from outside metalworking will be considered only if they demonstrate exceptional sales ability.
Compensation & Benefits
- On-target earnings for a fully ramped territory expected to exceed $200,000
- $60,000 base salary plus 10% commission with opportunities to get up to 20%.
- Target performance includes generating $500,000 in sales margins, with higher earnings for exceeding targets (e.g., $750,000+ unlocks incentives). Top performers enjoy uncapped potential. We provide a strong benefits package.
Location
- Preferred location is somewhere in Minnesota, especially north of the Twin Cities, but there is flexibility for the right candidate.
