Job DescriptionThe Bryan County Board of Commissioners is now accepting applications for Full Time Firefighter/EMT Recruit in the Department of Fire and Rescue.
Salary is estimated to be $49,154 at the completion of recruit school and EMT training. This does not include holidays.
RECRUIT SCHOOL TRAINING CONSISTS OF TWO PHASES:
FIREFIGHTER TRAINING
Fire Recruit school is approximately 14 weeks long. Typically, each day begins with physical fitness training, which involves running, strength training, or drills that will develop both personal fitness and teamwork. Recruits will have both classroom instruction and hands on training in a field environment on the fire ground, utilizing the IFSTA training manual 7th edition, "Essentials of Fire Fighting and Fire Department Operations". Recruits will physically demonstrate techniques on the fire training ground that they learned in the classroom environment.
During the 14-week school, fire recruits will be tested for NPQ Firefighter I, II and NPQ Hazardous Material Awareness and Operations level to become certified Georgia firefighters.
EMERGENCY MEDICAL TRAINING
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Recruit School is approximately 9 weeks. The EMT Recruit training will include working alongside professional emergency responders to learn and practice basic skills as a first responder. EMT Recruit training will include clinical rotations on the ambulance. Clinical rotations provide the opportunity to experience real-life situations and allow hands-on use of practical skills taught in the classroom.
The typical 8-hour classroom day contains both lecture and practical exercise components.
Recruits must pass all major testing during the basic EMT training, which includes weekly tests and a BCFR Final Exam. Once the recruits have successfully completed the BCFR final exam and practical, they must pass the National Registry of EMT's written tst for the EMT level.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License. Must be able to pass a GBI/FBI background check. Must pass a NFPA 1582 medical exam prior to hire.
Timeframe:
Applications are open July 2nd and close Aug 6, 2025. (1st review will be July 21)
Physical Assessment Practice/Testing the weeks of Aug 11th & Aug 18th.
Interviews are scheduled for Sept. 3 & 4.
Conditional offers will be made the week of Sept. 8th.
Pre-employment process includes motor vehicle check, background check, drug screening, and completion of NFPA 1582 medical exams for those receiving conditional offers. Expected to be completed by Oct 3, 2025.
Recruit Class 25-02 to begin on Oct 20, 2025.
