Job Description
This position is for a full-time tax accountant responsible for tax preparation for individuals and bookkeeping for small businesses. The position requires the ability to interact with staff and clients in a fast-paced environment while under pressure, remaining flexible, resourceful, and efficient.

Hours will generally be Monday through Friday 9 am to 5 pm with the opportunity for overtime especially during tax season. During tax season (February - April) one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday) will be required in addition to the usual work week.
Responsibilities:
- Compute federal, state, and local taxes owed by following the tax code.
- Prepare intermediate to advanced income tax returns for individuals (1040), small businesses (1120, 1120s, 1065), estates and trusts (1041) including multi-state tax returns.
- Ensure a copy of the completed tax return is provided to the client.
- Uncover potential deductions and credits and ensure clients do not pay unnecessary taxes.
- Advise against potential tax liabilities and resolve client inquiries.
- Review financial records such as income statements and documentation of expenditures.
- Interview clients to get a thorough picture of financial situation.
- Research complex tax issues and communicate findings effectively.
- Record financial transactions and complete the posting process for bookkeeping.
- Analyze bank statements and supporting documentation to create Profit and Loss statements for small businesses.
- Process all entries for multiple payrolls including collecting data, deduction changes, W4 changes, new hires, and additional payments.
- Prepare quarterly payroll returns and calculate quarterly payroll tax deposits and make payments utilizing EFTPS and NYS Online Services.
- Calculate sales tax liability and complete sales tax returns.
- Assist financial advisor with matters related to educational financial planning including reviewing and analyzing client's income and assets.
- Correspond and communicate with various tax authorities (IRS and states), and review and respond to notices or audits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance or related field
- Master's degree in Accounting or Taxation (preferred but not required)
- EA or CPA, or EA or CPA in progress (preferred but not required)
- 2+ years of recent full-time tax preparation experience including experience in payroll and sales tax returns or relevant internship experience.
- Strong background in preparing multi-state individual tax returns
- Knowledge of Quickbooks or Drake Accounting a plus
- Knowledge of ProSeries a plus
- Self-sufficient while working in a team setting
