Description:

The Manager of Federal Affairs leads the Brewers Association's federal affairs presence on Capitol Hill; including representing the Association and its members before Congress, federal agencies, and allied organizations. This individual will be responsible for monitoring policy developments, building and maintaining relationships with policymakers, and concisely communicating the impact of legislation to our members. Candidates at all stages in their career are encouraged to apply. Compensation and specific responsibilities will be commensurate with the candidate's skills and experience. This position requires regular interaction with federal legislators and policymakers; therefore the ideal candidate will be based in Washington, D.C. or the surrounding area.


Essential Duties

  • Represent and advocate for the interests of Brewers Association members.
  • Manage the Brewers Association's legislative, grassroots and political advocacy efforts in Washington DC.
  • Work with Association staff, leadership, and the Association's Government Affairs Committee to strategize, implement, and execute the Association's federal legislative and political priorities.
  • Identify, analyze, and promptly report to the Association and its members on key legislation, regulation, and political developments that could impact the Association's members.
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant members of Congress and their staff, members of the executive branch, and regulatory agencies.
  • Provide written and oral testimony and represent the Association and its members in meetings, hearings, and coalition efforts.
  • Plan, execute, and host the Brewers Association's annual Hill Climb to educate legislators and their staff about the industry and assist in recruiting new members for the Senate Bipartisan Small Brewers Caucus and the House Small Brewers Caucus.
  • Ensure that the Association's federal advocacy complies with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage fundraising and budget for the Brewers Association Political Action Committee (PAC) and ensure the PAC is compliant with the Federal Election Commission reporting requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Understanding of small business issues in a heavily regulated business environment, and/or a commitment to learn and become fluent in such issues and the impact on the Association's members.
  • Deep understanding of federal legislative, congressional, and regulatory processes.
  • Familiarity with public policy, advocacy, and government relations.
  • Research and analytical skills and the ability to interpret legislation, regulations, and policy proposals.
  • Understanding of the role of trade associations and how they represent their members.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate complex issues with members in a clear, engaging, and accurate manner.
  • Strong attention to detail, effective time management and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues and keep projects on track.
  • Relationship-building and networking skills.
  • Strong ability to work independently and demonstrate leadership.
  • Ability to present on government affairs topics to large groups, representing the Association at meetings, events, and conferences.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities and political developments.
  • Outgoing and approachable with the ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain professionalism in interactions with government officials and stakeholders.
  • Existing relationships with Ways and Means and Senate Finance Committee members are preferred but not required.
  • Experience working for a congressional office or an Association is preferred but not required.



Compensation details: 110000-150000 Yearly Salary
