Position Overview
We are seeking experienced Tool and Die Makers to support precision metal stamping operations. This role involves constructing, modifying, repairing, and maintaining tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges used in manufacturing high-precision metal components.
The ideal candidate has strong machining experience, can interpret engineering drawings and specifications, and is comfortable working with close tolerances in a production environment. Apprentices with relevant training are also encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
- Construct, modify, and repair a wide variety of tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges to close tolerances.
- Set up and operate machine tools including lathes, milling machines, shapers, and grinders.
- Review engineering specifications, blueprints, tool orders, and technical drawings.
- Create preliminary sketches, layouts, and detailed drawings as required.
- Develop effective machining strategies for die fabrication and tooling projects.
- Perform precision machining and fitting operations.
- Ensure all work meets quality, productivity, and efficiency standards.
- Follow workplace safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Troubleshoot tooling and production issues and recommend corrective actions.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum high school diploma or vocational school education.
- Completion of a Tool & Die apprenticeship program is a plus.
- Minimum 3 years of Tool and Die Maker or related machining experience.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, sketches, specifications, and operational documentation.
- Strong mathematical skills, including geometry and trigonometry used in machining applications.
- Experience working with close dimensional tolerances.
- Proficiency using precision measuring instruments and inspection tools.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of machine shop practices, equipment, and operations.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with progressive dies, transfer dies, multi-slide, or four-slide tooling.
- Precision metal stamping manufacturing experience.
- Strong understanding of tooling maintenance and repair processes.
- Experience supporting high-volume manufacturing environments.
