St. Peter Baptist Church Child Development Center is a faith-based early childhood program dedicated to nurturing the whole child—spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally. Position Overview

We are seeking a flexible and dependable Substitute Teacher Assistant to support our classrooms on an as-needed basis. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with children and can step in seamlessly to support daily classroom activities while ensuring a safe and engaging environment.


What You’ll Do

Classroom Support

  • Assist with implementing age-appropriate activities and lesson plans
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and engaging classroom
  • Prepare materials for daily instruction


Child Supervision & Engagement

  • Supervise children during activities, playtime, and transitions
  • Create a positive, nurturing environment
  • Support appropriate classroom behavior and routines


Individualized Support

  • Provide one-on-one or small group assistance as needed
  • Observe and share developmental insights with the Lead Teacher
  • Support children with diverse learning needs


Health & Safety

  • Ensure children’s safety and well-being at all times
  • Assist with hygiene routines (handwashing, diapering, cleaning)
  • Follow all center policies and emergency procedures


Team & Family Support

  • Communicate respectfully with staff and families
  • Support classroom and center-wide activities
  • Collaborate with teachers and staff to maintain a positive environment


What We’re Looking For

Required

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Patience, compassion, and a genuine passion for working with children
  • Ability to pass a background check


Preferred

  • Experience in childcare or early childhood education
  • Coursework in Early Childhood Education or related field


Certifications (or willingness to obtain within 30 days)

  • CPR & First Aid
  • Child Abuse Recognition Training
  • Medication Administration Training (if applicable)


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and actively engage with children throughout the day
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
