Position Overview:
We are seeking a Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) to join our multidisciplinary team. The ideal candidate will provide direct services to clients struggling with substance use disorders, facilitating their recovery journey through individual and group counseling, case management, and education. This role is critical in delivering holistic and compassionate care to our diverse client population.
Key Responsibilities:
Direct Client Services:
- Conduct initial assessments to determine clients' treatment needs and develop individualized care plans.
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions using evidence-based practices, such as motivational interviewing and relapse prevention strategies.
- Facilitate psychoeducational workshops on topics like addiction, recovery, coping skills, and wellness.
- Collaborate with clients to set measurable goals and track progress throughout their treatment journey.
Case Management:
- Assist clients in accessing community resources, including housing, employment, legal aid, and healthcare services.
- Advocate for clients by coordinating care with external providers, social services, and legal entities when necessary.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in compliance with clinic policies, ethical standards, and DC regulations.
Team Collaboration and Support:
- Work closely with clinicians, case managers, and medical staff to deliver integrated care.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss treatment plans and share updates on client progress.
- Provide input into program development and help identify opportunities for service improvement.
Education and Prevention:
- Lead substance use prevention initiatives and educational programs within the community.
- Serve as a resource for clients and families to better understand addiction and recovery.
- Promote harm reduction strategies tailored to individual client needs.
Qualifications:
Education & Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED (required); Bachelors degree in behavioral health, social work, or a related field (preferred).
- Active Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) credential in Washington, DC, in good standing (required).
- Certification in CPR and First Aid (preferred).
Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of professional experience providing counseling or support services to individuals with substance use disorders.
- Familiarity with co-occurring mental health conditions and experience in addressing them.
- Knowledge of DC SUD treatment regulations and Medicaid billing practices is preferred.
Skills:
- Proficiency in motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) principles, and trauma-informed care approaches.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple clients and documentation requirements effectively.
- Cultural competence and ability to build rapport with clients from diverse backgrounds.
- Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic computer applications.
