POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Think Tank is a woman-owned small business with more than 27 years of proven success delivering exceptional marine and fisheries services to the federal government. We are currently seeking an ideal candidate for the position of Oceanographer to support an upcoming proposal with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Résumé of successful candidate(s) will be included with our proposal.
The Oceanographer will contribute to research assessing the distribution, behavior, and habitat use of marine species in relation to oceanographic processes. The role involves data analysis, modeling, and integration of acoustic, visual, and environmental datasets to support conservation and management of protected species.
RESPONSBILITIES:
- Collect, process, and analyze oceanographic and acoustic data.
- Model species distribution and abundance using environmental variables.
- Integrate passive acoustic, telemetry, and visual datasets.
- Contribute to environmental assessments of human activities (e.g., shipping, climate change).
- Prepare scientific reports, manuscripts, and technical presentations.
- Participate in at-sea fieldwork and instrument deployment as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in oceanography, marine science, or a related discipline.
- Experience with environmental modeling (e.g., Generalized Additive Models, Bayesian methods).
- Proficiency in data analysis tools (R, Python, MATLAB).
- Familiarity with remote sensing and acoustic data analysis.
- Willingness to conduct fieldwork and travel as needed.
