Trainee Hiring Range: $59,827.87 to $74,784.83 Per Year

Full Pay Range: $66,475.41 to $99,713.11 Per Year

Essential Duties:
- Serves as the acquisitions and cataloging librarian for Prescott Public Library.
- Oversees and monitors all bibliographic and holdings records for the Prescott Public Library.
- Provides leadership and supervision to the technical services team and oversees volunteers in this work group.
- Hires, supervises, trains, schedules, and evaluates staff; tracks time off; reviews accruals; and checks and approves payroll for assigned staff.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, Library customers, and community partners.
- Interacts with YLN member library staff and serves on YLN Cataloging User Group (Technical Services User Group).
- Provides backup for technical services staff with interlibrary loans, mail, newspaper & magazine processing, and materials repair.
- Serves on Library Management Team to provide input on strategic direction and library planning.
- Collaborates with Collection Management Team to select and order materials, oversee and maintain library book budget, and troubleshoot issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited library school. Two years' experience in technical services (cataloging and acquisitions) in a public library setting with supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
Trainee Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and one-year library experience in a paraprofessional or professional capacity and a commitment to completion of a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution within two years may be considered for an interim trainee position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of Library services, systems, and procedures
- Knowledge of sources and materials in both print and non-print formats, and searching methods and procedures
- Strong customer service orientation and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with individuals within and outside the organization
- Skill in supervising professional library staff and working effectively with volunteers
- Skill in training staff and volunteers
- Working knowledge of professional library cataloging and classification using an integrated library system
- Working knowledge of AACR2, RDA, OCLC Connection, and OCLC Worldshare
- Ability to catalog new items in integrated library system, edit and update existing catalog records, and at times perform original cataloging
- Ability to manage and monitor a budget
- Ability to select, acquire, and order large quantities of materials from approved vendors. Downloads bib records into ILS. Receives, unpacks, and invoices acquisitions.
- Ability to work with vendors on orders and resolve issues.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute percentage, ratio, and rate.
- Analyzing complex administrative information and issues, defining problems, and evaluating alternatives, and recommending methods, procedures, and techniques for resolution of issues.
- Skill in organizational and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority.
- Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgement, and discretion in performance of duties
- Exhibits a positive attitude in word and action and encourages others to do the same
- Ability to work well with minimal supervision
- Ability to expand knowledge and work skills
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in a library environment.
- Safely performs physically demanding duties involving repetitive standing, walking, reaching, bending, and stretching for long periods of time.
- Must be able to lift, carry, and/or push materials including full book carts, book bins, and lifting boxes weighing up to 45 pounds.
- Safely operates a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, telephone, and copier requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
- Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
- Clearly, concisely, and effectively communicate in person, over the phone, virtual meetings, and via email.
