Automation Technician

$30 - $35/hr | 2nd Shift | Fremont, NE

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Automation Technician to join our team at a high-volume poultry production facility. This role is essential to maintaining and supporting automated and semi-automated manufacturing systems. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in electrical controls, PLC programming, and industrial automation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot control issues using PLC programming software (Studio5000 preferred).
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Modify and troubleshoot HMI and SCADA systems.
  • Resolve network communication issues and understand basic networking concepts.
  • Maintain and repair electrical controls on processing equipment.
  • Use multimeters and troubleshoot analog devices.
  • Identify and mitigate equipment breakdown risks; participate in reliability and process improvement projects.
  • Download and restore PLC programs as needed.
  • Maintain documentation and ensure equipment is up to date.
  • Train technicians and operators on equipment and processes.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Proficient with hand and power tools.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical components and safety.
  • Comfortable working in refrigerated environments (45–50&degree;F).
  • Strong communication skills with internal teams and external vendors.
  • Familiarity with automated industrial equipment (conveyors, robotics, packaging).
  • Experience with PLC programming, including troubleshooting, modifying, and creating programs.
  • Understanding of HMI/SCADA platforms (FactoryTalk View Studio ME or Ignition preferred).
  • Knowledge of Ethernet/IP and other industrial communication protocols.
  • Ability to work safely around 480V equipment.
  • Experience with VFDs (Allen Bradley preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must pass a physical exam and be able to lift required weights.
  • Ability to stand/walk for an entire 8-hour shift.
  • Consistent use of PPE and adherence to safety standards.

Preferred Experience:

  • Degree in mechatronics or related field plus 2 years of manufacturing experience (recommended but not required).
  • Relevant technical certifications (e.g., Rockwell, Fanuc, Inductive Automation).
  • Equivalent experience in lieu of education will be considered.

Work Environment:

Work primarily on the 2nd shift with some flexibility between 9/10am and 6/7pm, though 1st shift may also be considered. The role is based in a chicken processing facility with a refrigerated environment ranging from 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit.

The pay range for this position is $62500.00 - $73000.00/yr.
