Automation Technician
$30 - $35/hr | 2nd Shift | Fremont, NE
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Automation Technician to join our team at a high-volume poultry production facility. This role is essential to maintaining and supporting automated and semi-automated manufacturing systems. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in electrical controls, PLC programming, and industrial automation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot control issues using PLC programming software (Studio5000 preferred).
- Diagnose, maintain, and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
- Modify and troubleshoot HMI and SCADA systems.
- Resolve network communication issues and understand basic networking concepts.
- Maintain and repair electrical controls on processing equipment.
- Use multimeters and troubleshoot analog devices.
- Identify and mitigate equipment breakdown risks; participate in reliability and process improvement projects.
- Download and restore PLC programs as needed.
- Maintain documentation and ensure equipment is up to date.
- Train technicians and operators on equipment and processes.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Proficient with hand and power tools.
- Basic knowledge of electrical components and safety.
- Comfortable working in refrigerated environments (45–50°ree;F).
- Strong communication skills with internal teams and external vendors.
- Familiarity with automated industrial equipment (conveyors, robotics, packaging).
- Experience with PLC programming, including troubleshooting, modifying, and creating programs.
- Understanding of HMI/SCADA platforms (FactoryTalk View Studio ME or Ignition preferred).
- Knowledge of Ethernet/IP and other industrial communication protocols.
- Ability to work safely around 480V equipment.
- Experience with VFDs (Allen Bradley preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Must pass a physical exam and be able to lift required weights.
- Ability to stand/walk for an entire 8-hour shift.
- Consistent use of PPE and adherence to safety standards.
Preferred Experience:
- Degree in mechatronics or related field plus 2 years of manufacturing experience (recommended but not required).
- Relevant technical certifications (e.g., Rockwell, Fanuc, Inductive Automation).
- Equivalent experience in lieu of education will be considered.
Work Environment:
Work primarily on the 2nd shift with some flexibility between 9/10am and 6/7pm, though 1st shift may also be considered. The role is based in a chicken processing facility with a refrigerated environment ranging from 45-50 degrees Fahrenheit.
