POSITION SUMMARY:
Kitchen/Cafeteria Staff is responsible for the preparation and cooking of food items needed for meal service, cashiering, and cleaning of prep areas to facilitate efficient food service operations. This role also includes maintaining food safety and sanitation standards. The Kitchen/Cafeteria Worker will model the character virtues and mission of the school, ensuring high-quality service to students and staff. This is a Full-Time Temporary position.
WORK SCHEDULE:

Days: Monday – Friday (occasional weekends as needed for special events)

Snow Day, School Vacations, Holidays: This position is scheduled to work a modified School Year which includes pay for all School Vacations, Snow Days, and Holidays, but excludes Summer School Vacation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Open the kitchen daily and begin set-up for meal preparation and service.

Oversee preparation of all school meals and assist in the daily preparation and serving of food according to planned menus.

Supervise production and ensure proper serving of meals in alignment with school nutrition guidelines.

Receive and verify supply deliveries, ensure stock rotation, and maintain accurate inventory and production records.

Operate Point of Sale (POS) systems, receive payments, and reconcile daily receipts; utilize basic computer skills as necessary.

Supervise the maintenance of a high degree of sanitation and cleanliness in kitchen and storage facilities.

Ensure proper storage of all food supplies and equipment necessary for food service operations.

Train, assign, and direct work activities of other Kitchen/Cafeteria staff.

Attend all district food service meetings and professional development training sessions.

Monitor freezers, refrigerators, and other equipment to ensure proper operating temperatures and compliance with sanitation standards.

Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety guidelines and regulatory compliance.

Immediately report safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to the appropriate supervisor.

Obtain and maintain required certifications and professional development as needed.

Minimum of six (6) hours of Professional Standards Training is required by or before May 1st annually.

Interact courteously and professionally with students, staff, and community members.

Maintain reliable attendance and punctuality.

Perform other duties as assigned to support school food service operations.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:

High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.

Prior experience in food service is strongly preferred.

Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team setting.

Strong problem-solving skills, openness to feedback, and a positive attitude.

Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret simple instructions.

Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with students, staff, and supervisors.

Ability to draft simple memos and correspondence as required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Background check and fingerprinting as required by Massachusetts state regulations.

Ability to work in compliance with federal, state, and district policies and regulations.

Completion of any required professional development or certifications as mandated by the District
EQUIPMENT USED:

Kitchen appliances including ovens, stoves, refrigerators, and dishwashers.

Basic office equipment such as computers, copy machines, calculators, telephones, and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
-
The position primarily operates indoors in a kitchen/cafeteria setting.
-
The noise level varies from moderate to high, depending on kitchen activities.
-
May be exposed to heat, cold, dust, and non-toxic food-related fumes.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
-
Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and carry food supplies (up to 50 lbs.), and perform repetitive motions.

Frequent bending, crouching, stooping, and stretching.
-
Standing or walking for the entirety of an 8-hour shift.

Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment requiring multitasking and attention to detail.
