We have a Senior Substation Designer opportunity in Winslow, ME. This position is responsible for providing design support for the substation electrical/physical design within the electrical power engineering team for WM customers primarily in the Electric Utility market. Projects will range in size, complexity, and voltage (120V to 345kV).

Responsibilities include

  • Responsible for setting the standard for Electrical Power Engineering Design practices and facilitating growth of the design support resources for the Business Unit in collaboration with Operations and Business Unit Managers.
  • Create standards, tools and templates to promote consistency in drawing development and make available resources to generate efficiencies and repeatability in relevant design efforts. Including:
    • Create and update automation tools to increase speed and accuracy of large quantities of prints
    • Maintain a clear set of Standard procedures so that all documents produced are consistent, clear, and correct
    • Maintain a high quality set of drawing templates, blocks, and other associated tools necessary for drawing consistency, accuracy, and timely completion
    • Coordinate the submittal process, including drawing QA procedures, creating Transmittal documents, and assembling digital and Hard copy submittal packages
    • Maintain accurate drawing records by entering and maintaining drawing database information and ensuring that all team members are doing so.
    • Develop and/or direct others in designing/drafting the following:
      • Power one lines and phasing diagrams
      • Control enclosure layouts, elevations and details
      • Substation yard layouts, elevations and details
      • Conduit plans and details
      • Grounding plans and details
      • Foundation plans
      • Lighting plans and details
      • Bill of Materials
    • Communicate effectively with team members
    • Implement NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA, ISO, NERC, OSHA and other organization’s regulations and standards for designs and installations
    • Commitment to meeting customer requirements within the project; yet able to succeed when requirements are not pre-defined. This shall include adhering to Client Drawing requirements as well as design standards as applicable
    • Flexible in mindset to take on new challenges, and continually improve in knowledge and efficiencies

        Requirements

        Education 2 year Associates degree in engineering technology, 2-year technical degree in architectural/engineering drafting and design or relatable CAD certifications.

        Experience 10+ years of experience in power engineering design. Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microstation is necessary. General knowledge of power engineering design practices, the national electrical code and electrical theory is required.

        Physical Demands of PositionSeeing, color perception, hearing, listening, clear speech, dexterity in hands. Ability to perform the minimum requirements and meet deadlines as required.

        Working ConditionsHybrid mix of standard office environment: frequent use of computer, facsimiles, copy machines, and other office equipment. The ability to travel for client/project needs is strongly preferred.
