INSTRUMENT TEST TECHNICIAN (MEDICAL DEVICES) | DETAILS AND COMPENSATION:

  • Location: Sparks Glencoe MD 21152 – 100% On-site
  • Payrate: $24.18/hr
  • Required Availability: Full-Time | Monday–Friday, Day Shift (Mandatory Overtime Required)

INSTRUMENT TEST TECHNICIAN (MEDICAL DEVICES) | SUMMARY AND HIGHLIGHTS:

The Instrument Test Technician (Medical Devices) supports production assembly and full system testing of medical instruments. This role is responsible for analyzing test results, troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and software-related issues, and ensuring instruments meet performance and quality standards. The technician also contributes to continuous improvement efforts and supports safety and quality initiatives.

  • This position is a contract assignment with potential to hire on permanently based upon attendance, performance, and business needs
  • Benefits are available to full-time employees after 90 days of employment and include health, optical, dental, life, and short-term disability insurance

INSTRUMENT TEST TECHNICIAN (MEDICAL DEVICES) | RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build, integrate, and understand complete instrument assembly processes
  • Perform functional and release testing on moderately complex instruments
  • Analyze test data to determine pass/fail results and implement solutions
  • Optimize system performance (precision movement and/or light systems)
  • Identify defects and recommend design or process improvements
  • Read and interpret drawings, work instructions, and workmanship standards
  • Train and mentor associates on mechanical and testing activities
  • Process and disposition Quality Notifications (QNs)
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Planning, and Purchasing teams
  • Perform material handling for raw materials and sub-assemblies
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), safety, and quality procedures
  • Complete other duties as assigned

INSTRUMENT TEST TECHNICIAN (MEDICAL DEVICES) | REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED (verifiable) required | Associate’s (AA) degree in a technical field preferred
  • Attendance: Commitment to mandatory attendance during the first 90 days.
  • 3.5+ years of manufacturing experience required in lieu of an Associate’s degree

Required Skills & Competencies:

  • Experience supporting testing of moderately complex instruments
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Proven leadership ability with experience mentoring or coaching others
  • Commitment to Continuous Improvement and Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Experience participating in Kaizen events, Blitzes, and CI initiatives
  • Working knowledge of mechanical tools (torque drivers, gauges, bits, etc.)
  • Ability to read drawings, interpret specifications, and measure dimensions
  • Strong time management and ability to manage multiple production orders
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities
  • Team-oriented mindset with strong collaboration skills
  • Ability to work within defined quality systems and procedures

Required Technical & Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in English (reading, writing, comprehension)
  • Ability to analyze charts, follow diagrams, and perform basic arithmetic
  • Basic PC and Windows environment proficiency
  • Strong math and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
