The American School for the Deaf (ASD) is the oldest school for the deaf, founded in 1817 by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc. SCOPE OF DUTIES
Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Coordinator of the PACES Autism Program and Assistant Principal, the BCBA will provide comprehensive behavior analysis services for children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This position involves conducting assessments, developing treatment plans and Functional Behavior Assessments, implementing behavior interventions, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to promote the development of essential skills. The BCBA will work directly with clients, parents, and staff, ensuring evidence-based interventions are delivered effectively. This is a full-time position with standard working hours, including 2-3 afternoon/evening hours per week.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and skill assessments to identify areas of need and design individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
- Implement behavior interventions targeting skill acquisition in areas such as communication, social skills, self-regulation, and daily living.
- Provide direct therapy to clients in individual or group settings, using evidence-based practices such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Verbal Behavior (VB), and others.
- Train and supervise staff in the implementation of behavior intervention plans, ensuring fidelity and effectiveness across settings.
- Collaborate with parents and families to provide support, guidance, and training in behavior management strategies.
- Monitor client progress, modify interventions as needed, and maintain data to track outcomes and effectiveness of interventions.
- Develop and maintain treatment documentation, including progress reports, treatment plans, and data summaries.
- Participate in case reviews, staff meetings, and team collaboration with other professionals (e.g., speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists).
- Provide supervision and mentorship to Residential Counselors, Teacher Assistants and other support staff.
- Assist with the development and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for clients.
- Provide consultation and training to school staff and other professionals regarding behavior management and treatment plans.
- Support clients in achieving goals related to independence, social interaction, communication, and other areas as outlined in their treatment plans.
- Be available to provide on-call support during evenings and weekends as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field.
- Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA) required.
- At least 2 years of experience working with children or adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental disabilities.
- Strong knowledge and experience in behavior analysis principles, including ABA, VB, PRT, and other related methodologies.
- Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including educators, therapists, and parents.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for preparing reports and conducting training.
- Knowledge and experience in working with diverse populations and a commitment to supporting the development of individuals with autism and other developmental disabilities.
- Ability to supervise and provide mentorship to staff and interns.
- Availability to work 2-3 afternoon/evening hours per week.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
