BASIC FUNCTION:
The incumbent ensures that safe transportation is provided to Seneca Nation Health System (SNHS) patients. Reports directly to Transportation Coordinator.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Inspects vehicle for defects and safe operating conditions daily and provides written documentation of each inspection.
- Drives vehicle to transport patients to and from the health center or other health facilities with pick up at the patients residence.
- Represents the organization with positive and professional interactions.
- Adheres to all traffic laws and regulations in a conscientious and safe manner.
- Regulates heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for patient comfort.
- Assists patients boarding and exiting vehicle, if necessary.
- Ensures vehicle is clean and well-maintained at all times.
- Makes deliveries and pick-ups of health related packages and documents.
- Maintains records of patient pick-up and drop-off times, trips and miles driven.
- Reports any vehicle malfunctions to supervisor and fleet management.
- Works to promote cooperative staff efforts to provide and maintain high quality service to patients, physicians and other staff to assure quality patient care.
- Communicates effectively with patients to provide information and assistance.
- Upholds and promotes the value and integrity of the Seneca Nation Health Systems mission statement. Will promote SNHS in a positive manner.
- Provides care through a trauma-informed lens by incorporating key principles of both physical and psychological environment safety, trustworthiness and transparency, collaboration of decision-making during treatment plan developments, empowerment of patients by recognizing and building upon individual strengths, as well as recognizing and respecting the diversity of cultural backgrounds and sensitivity.
- Participates and completes all mandatory staff meetings, trainings, and in-services.
- Follows all policies and procedures of the department, SNHS, and Seneca Nation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance and its operation.
- Able to communicate with the public.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid and clean N.Y.S. Class E (livery/taxi) drivers license OR CDL with Passenger endorsement, required.
- Two (2) years of previous experience in commercial driving, such as school bus driving or paratransit, is preferred.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, as some passengers may require assistance with mobility devices.
- Minimum age of 21 years due to insurance requirements.
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including early mornings and late afternoons.
- Must have a current (within 30 days) driving abstract.
- Must pass the SNI NTSI class after a successful 90 probation period.
- Experience in a large hospital, academic medical center, outpatient health care setting, or Indian Health Service (IHS)/tribal health, preferred.
