A warm, busy DC family is seeking a thoughtful, detail-oriented Family Assistant to support the smooth day-to-day operations of their home. This role is best suited for a candidate who enjoys creating calm, well-organized spaces and providing afternoon and occasional support for young children.

The anticipated schedule is Monday through Friday, approximately 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM. This is a true Family Assistant role that collaborates with the principal daily.

Key Responsibilities

Household Support & Organization

• Maintain a clean, orderly, and well-functioning home environment through daily light tidying

• Organize and maintain pantries, closets, and shared household spaces

• Handle grocery shopping, stocking, and thoughtful organization of household supplies

• Clean up the kitchen after breakfast, including loading/unloading the dishwasher and wiping down counters

Laundry & Garment Care

• Oversee full laundry processes including washing, ironing, and folding

• Provide attentive care for fine linens, delicate fabrics, and household surfaces

• Maintain organization of wardrobes and linen storage

Light Meal Support

• Provide occasional simple meal preparation (approximately once per week) and/or preparation of ingredients.

• Assist with basic kitchen upkeep and organization

Childcare Support

• Daily preschool pickup for two young children (ages 2 and 4), involving a ~15-minute walk with a stroller

• Provide warm, attentive care and engagement with the children through the late afternoon/early evening

• Offer full-day support for the children when they are out of school (holidays, sick days, schedule changes)

Additional Details

• The children attend full-day preschool five days per week

• The home receives professional deep cleaning services twice per week, so the role focuses on maintenance and organization rather than heavy cleaning
  
• The Family Assistant may travel with the family once or twice per year
  
• This is a fully live out role.
  

• The home is a four-story townhouse located near Dupont Circle

  
  

Ideal Candidate

The family is seeking someone who is:

• Naturally organized with a strong eye for detail

• Highly skilled in laundry care and knowledgeable about fabric and garment handling

• Comfortable balancing household support with childcare responsibilities

• Warm, reliable, and proactive in anticipating needs

• Physically comfortable in a multi-level home and walking for school pickup

• Flexible and supportive during changes in the children’s schedule

Compensation & Benefits

• $40–$45 per hour, DOE

The family has a preference for local candidates, though they are open to candidates with ties to the Washington, DC area.
