Work Schedule:
Hours Monday - Friday 0700-1530, 1.0 FTE
Job Summary:
Functioning as a liaison between laboratory and patients, the phlebotomist performs specimen collection, specimen processing, data entry and under supervision of the Laboratory Manager, limited laboratory testing. Responsible for blood collections, by venipuncture and capillary technique, and non-blood collections from patients of all age groups. Verifies patient identification and properly labels specimens to ensure patient safety. Ability to work in a team environment and provide excellent customer service.
Responsibilities include:
- Responsible to proper specimen collection and handling, blood and non-blood specimens
- Responsible for following processing specimens and ordering laboratory testing
- Responsible for testing specimens using waived and non-waived methods
- Provide results in LIS and over the phone
- Responsible for acquiring and maintaining CPR certification
- DOT certification may be required
- Other duties may be assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge in laboratory tests and specimen requirements
- Knowledge of laboratory equipment and how to operate
- Knowledge of and adherence to HIPAA and safety guidelines
- Skill in verbal and written communication
- Skill in computer functions
- Ability to function with multiple priorities and interruptions
- Ability to follow written and verbal guidelines to obtain specimens and perform procedures/testing
Physical Requirements for the Role:
- Ability to lift/push/pull 50 lbs
- Ability to stand for prolonged periods, frequently bend/stoop and walking, reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive)
- Repetitive motion including but not limited to computer keyboarding
Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED
- Prior healthcare experience or phlebotomy training, preferred
- Certificate in Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant
Work Environment:
May be exposed to chemicals, cold, dust, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
