Job Summary

The Completions Engineer is responsible for the Execution of Completions projects as assigned, including hydraulic fracturing design, surface completion equipment selection and implementation of the well completion process. The Completions Engineer is charged with overseeing recompletion operations as necessary. When directed, the Completions Engineer may be assigned oversight of workover and/or well repair operations. This position reports directly to the Director of Drilling & Completions.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and Execute Completions plans for assigned wells and well pads.
  • Track estimated field costs in WellView accurately and timely.
  • Involvement in D&C well pad plat approval process.
  • Design, plan, and coordinate stimulation activities including perforating and pumping services with the field completions supervisor.
  • Responsible for stage selection and perforation designs.
  • Plan and coordinate well flowback activities with field completions supervisor.
  • Plan and coordinate recompletion activities as directed.
  • Provide Technical review of workover and well repair procedures when necessary.
  • Vendor management
  • Coordinate water transfer activities to and from completions pad with the water superintendent.
  • Track and report on completions capital activity spend on all wells on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Develop and use written logistics plan reports for all Completion activities.
  • Review daily morning activity reports for accuracy.
  • Evaluate options and prepare cost estimates and economic justification for completions.
  • Perform open hole and cased hole log evaluation.
  • Explore additional completion technologies to enhance production and or reduce capital expenditures.
  • Review and evaluate offset well performance and completion designs in analysis of upcoming well completion work activity.
  • Work closely with geology and reservoir engineers and those in other disciplines.
  • Responsible for verifying that completions operations meet State and Federal regulatory and environmental compliance and deliver professional testimony if needed.
  • Permitting duties as required from regulatory and development plans.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with all company employees and contractors and with the local service companies
  • Provide engineering leadership and identify opportunities to improve operations in terms of safety, integrity, reliability, and optimization
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, including timely written reports of activity, as requested
  • Analyze various completion techniques and their effectiveness in each basin
  • Monitor and analyze offset operator’s techniques and results
  • Continually improve completions techniques and practices.

Supervisor Duties

  • Responsible for directing work performed by contract personnel as assigned on a well pad or project
  • Responsible for directing the work of completions supervisors and completions techs as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A minimum of a B.S. in petroleum, mechanical or chemical engineering required

Experience:

  • 5+ years of Completions Engineering experience with an oil and gas operator required

Skills & Abilities:

  • Expertise in completion design and implementation
  • Process improvement
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplined team environment where technology and individual responsibility are emphasized
  • Working knowledge of WellView and the MS Windows Office Suite
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral
  • Highly organized, resourceful and efficient self-starter willing and able to manage and prioritize multiple activities simultaneously
  • Flexibility to travel and work long, irregular hours when required
  • Ability to think creatively in solving engineering and business problems
  • Ability to think clearly in stressful situations and manage frequent interruptions
  • Leadership, poise, integrity and excellent interpersonal skills

Licenses/ Certifications:

  • Current well control certificate required

Compensation

The base compensation for this role in this location is targeted between $151,000 and $245,000 annually. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including candidate experience and expertise, and may vary from the range listed above.

Work Conditions

Location:

This position is in Denver, CO. Candidates currently residing in locations outside of daily commuting distance will be considered, however, it is the expectation that the selected individual will be available at the work location.

Work Environment:

This position operates in an office environment. This entails working inside an office space wherein employees may be provided a public workstation (cubicle) or private office. From time to time, the role will require field visits where exposure to extreme weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, vibrations, dust, electrical charges and other unforeseen exposures may be encountered.

Physical Demands:

In the performance of the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is required to have visual acuity to operate a motor vehicle and view a computer terminal for prolonged periods of time. While at work sites, the employee will be expected to walk and stand. Individuals might be asked to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, and/or crawl. Individuals might be required to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. in the performance of this position.

Position Type and Working Hours:

This is a full-time position. Core work hours are from 8:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m. Monday – Thursday, and 8:00am – 12:00pm on Friday. Employees must be capable and willing to work overtime as required and to participate in occasional meetings, events, seminars, conferences, or other activities outside of typical work hours. Employees responsible for project operations are expected to monitor and, in some cases, respond to emails, calls, or texts outside of business hours.

Travel:

20% travel to field/ work site locations may be expected.
