Necessary Training: Licensure by the Georgia State Board and at least two years of experience in the optical field
The optician for Specs Eyecare will be expected to perform the normal duties of an optician and also help the doctor with any other needs in order to effectively care for patients and grow the practice. The employee must have a friendly and courteous personality and motivation to grow the practice and increase sales. The optician will be expected to represent the company’s dedication to high quality, personalized patient care.
Duties to include:
- Selling goods such as contact lenses, spectacles, sunglasses and other goods related to eyes
- Taking eye and facial measurements (bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, optical centers of eyes) to correctly interpret prescriptions
- Assist patients when selecting frames for proper fit (to coordinate with facial and eye movements and optical prescriptions) and styling; Recommend specific lenses and lens coatings to suit patients needs (taking in to consideration vocational and avocational visual requirements)
- Adjust/Repair glasses
- Advise patients on proper wear and care of their glasses
- Teach patients how to insert, remove, and care for their contact lenses
- Arranging and maintaining displays of optical merchandise along with cleaning
- Preparing work orders for optical laboratory: both contact lenses and glasses
- Working with sales professionals from vision care suppliers and selecting frames to order/sell
- Ensuring that all orders arrive and verify that finished lenses are ground to the specifications of the patient
- Answering the telephone and making appointments for patients along with appropriate triage
- Verifying insurance eligibility
- Helping to arrange referral appointments for patients as needed
- Obtaining previous records and prescriptions from patients past eye care professional
- Helping to work-up patients before seeing the doctor: including neutralizing patient’s habitual prescription, auto-refraction/auto-keratometry, checking eye pressure, taking brief history and taking visual acuity
- Marketing in order to grow the practice
- Perform administrative duties such as tracking inventory and sales, submitting patient insurance information/claims, and performing simple bookkeeping.
- Any other duties that are deemed appropriate by the Optometrist or manager for success of the practice
