The Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) delivers direct rehabilitation services to patients under the guidance of a licensed Physical Therapist. This role encompasses executing treatment plans, maintaining patient documentation, and working collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams while adhering to healthcare regulations. Candidates must hold a valid license, possess CPR certification, be adept in therapy software, and demonstrate strong communication and customer service abilities in a post-acute care environment.
Position Overview
The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for providing direct rehabilitation care to patients referred by physicians, under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT), in compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and organizational standards.
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements
- Completion of an accredited physical therapy program (ASPT).
- Current registration or licensure in the relevant state, with an obligation to maintain an active license in good standing throughout employment.
- Preferred one (1) year of experience in a post-acute care or similar setting.
- CPR certification required upon hire or to be obtained during orientation, with the necessity to keep it current throughout employment.
Specific Job Responsibilities
- Engage in community health initiatives and projects as appropriate.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and email communication.
- Coordinate with patients, families, and support departments to effectively address patient needs.
- Exhibit proper body mechanics consistently.
- Make independent decisions when necessary.
- Possess knowledge of practices, procedures, and regulations governing operations in a post-acute care facility.
- Implement and interpret departmental programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all competency areas, including patient rights, safety, and sanitation.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, vendors, and others.
- Ensure confidentiality of all proprietary and sensitive information.
- Adhere to organizational policies, including those related to harassment and compliance.
- Exhibit integrity and professionalism by following the organization's Code of Conduct and completing required compliance training.
Essential Functions
- Implement physical therapy treatment plans as directed by the supervising PT.
- Document patient progress accurately and in a timely manner.
- Utilize therapy software effectively and correctly.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive demeanor towards patients.
- Assist in the safe evacuation of patients when necessary.
- Demonstrate reliable and consistent attendance.
- Employ reasoning skills and sound judgment in various situations.
- Collaborate effectively within an interdisciplinary team.
- Engage in physical activities such as sitting, standing, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, walking, reaching, and moving intermittently during work hours.
- Read, write, speak, and comprehend the English language proficiently.
