We’re partnering with a well-established construction company in the Springfield area that is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join their accounting team. In this role, you’ll support the Assistant Controller and play a key part in daily accounting operations, month-end close, and financial reporting. This is a great opportunity to build depth in corporate accounting while contributing to a collaborative and growing organization.
Main Responsibilities:
- Prepare and complete monthly bank reconciliations
- Manage all sales and use tax return filings
- Reconcile monthly sales by state and ensure accuracy of supporting reports
- Perform account reconciliations and maintain supporting documentation
- Oversee daily service capitalization activities
- Maintain and update the company’s business forecast
- Support month-end close by preparing journal entries and account analyses
- Maintain and track fixed assets, including additions and disposals
- Manage the company credit card program, including receipt collection and coding
- Assist with fiscal year-end close and audit preparation
- Serve as backup support for Accounts Payable
- File year-end 1099s and maintain W-9 records
- Support ad hoc projects and additional tasks as assigned by management
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- 2+ years of hands-on accounting experience, including month-end close
- Strong understanding of GAAP and core accounting principles
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems
- Advanced Excel and strong overall systems skills
Pluses:
- Experience in the construction, manufacturing, or project-based industry
- Prior exposure to inventory accounting
- Strong analytical skills and a continuous-improvement mindset
- Ability to work independently while supporting a team environment
