Job Summary
We are seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Dump Truck Driver to join our team in the Highlands, NC area. You will be responsible for transporting materials—such as gravel, dirt, asphalt, and debris—to and from various residential and commercial construction sites. Because of our unique mountain geography, we are looking for a driver who is comfortable navigating steep terrain and winding roads while maintaining the highest safety standards.
Roles & Responsibilities
- Safe Operation: Safely operate a Class B (or Class A) dump truck in mountain terrain, including narrow roads and steep grades.
- Material Transport: Haul and dump loads of aggregate, soil, and construction materials at designated locations.
- Vehicle Inspection: Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections (brakes, tires, fluids, lights) to ensure the vehicle is in top operating condition.
- Load Management: Ensure loads are secure and within legal weight limits; operate the dump bed and tailgate controls with precision.
- Log Maintenance: Maintain accurate daily driver logs, delivery tickets, and maintenance reports.
- Communication: Coordinate with dispatch and on-site foremen via radio or phone to ensure timely deliveries and site-specific instructions.
- Routine Maintenance: Keep the truck cab and exterior clean; report any mechanical issues or safety hazards immediately.
Requirements & Qualifications
- License: Must possess a valid CDL Class B (Class A is a plus).
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of professional truck driving experience. Experience driving in mountain/high-elevation terrain is a major plus.
- Clean Record: Valid DOT Medical Card and a clean MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) with no recent major violations.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with manual transmissions (8-speed/10-speed) is preferred.
- Physical Ability: Must be able to climb in and out of the truck multiple times a day and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs (e.g., for tarping or minor maintenance).
- Reliability: Strong work ethic and punctuality; ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
