Job Description
Position Overview
The Level 2 AV Install Technician is an intermediate-level role responsible for independently executing AV system installations, configuring and testing equipment, and troubleshooting system issues. This role requires a strong understanding of signal flow, construction documents, and system integration, with reduced supervision compared to entry-level technicians.
This individual will also begin mentoring junior technicians and taking ownership of job-site quality and task completion.
Key Responsibilities
Installation & Configuration
- Install and configure commercial AV systems (displays, projectors, DSPs, amplifiers, microphones, video distribution)
- Install and integrate control systems (Crestron, Extron, etc.)
- Commission conferencing systems (Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms, Poly, Logitech)
- Install digital signage and media players
- Build, wire, and dress equipment racks to AVIXA standards
- Perform cable termination across multiple connection types (CAT, coax, punch-downs, etc.)
System Knowledge & Signal Flow
- Interpret AV drawings (floor plans, rack elevations, signal flow diagrams)
- Understand analog vs. digital signals, AV-over-IP, and system architecture
- Identify and resolve signal path issues (ground loops, impedance mismatches)
Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve system-level issues independently
- Isolate faults across cabling, hardware, and configuration
- Utilize technical documentation and manuals effectively
Quality & Leadership
- Maintain high installation standards (cable management, labeling, finish)
- Complete punch-list items efficiently
- Mentor Level 1 Technicians on-site
Job Site Coordination
- Communicate with PMs, foremen, clients, and other trades
- Track time and maintain project awareness
- Maintain tools, materials, and company vehicle
Required Qualifications
- 1–3 years of commercial AV or low-voltage installation experience
- Ability to read AV drawings and understand signal flow
- Strong troubleshooting skills
- Valid driver’s license and clean record
- Ability to lift 80 lbs and work in active construction environments
- Must pass background check and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications
- AVIXA CTS or CTS-I (or willingness to obtain)
- OSHA 10/30 certification
- Manufacturer certifications (Crestron, Extron, QSC, Biamp, Shure)
- Experience with AV-over-IP (Dante, AES67, NDI, SDVoE)
- Basic networking knowledge (IP addressing, VLANs)
- Experience with cable testing tools (Fluke, Ideal)
