Organization Overview
A large, full-service acute care hospital with 450+ beds, offering comprehensive services including cardiovascular care, advanced neurological services, orthopedic care, women’s services (including high-risk obstetrics), pediatrics, and emergency services. The organization operates a Level II Trauma Center, an accredited Chest Pain Center, a Level III NICU, and an advanced stroke program. Job Summary
The Vice President of Emergency Services provides executive leadership for Emergency Services, driving strategic planning, operational excellence, quality outcomes, and business growth across multiple emergency care sites. This leader partners with physicians, clinical leaders, and executive stakeholders to enhance care delivery, improve patient outcomes, and position the service line for long-term success. The role fosters a culture aligned with organizational mission, values, and accountability.
Key ResponsibilitiesQuality

Lead the development and implementation of evidence-based practices, patient safety initiatives, and quality improvement strategies.

Establish and ensure adherence to standards of care while engaging medical staff as strategic partners.

Reduce variation in clinical practice to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and cost management.

Maintain compliance with all regulatory, accreditation, and legal standards.

Lead patient throughput strategies including capacity planning, volume forecasting, patient flow coordination, and admission/discharge planning.

Direct nursing practice and unit operations; develop policies and nursing standards to meet patient and family needs.

Foster an exceptional patient experience culture that differentiates the service line as a preferred destination for care and practice.

Leverage patient and stakeholder feedback to identify opportunities for improvement and elevate satisfaction.

Create and execute a strategic roadmap to enhance patient experience and clinical outcomes.

Develop and maintain strategic external relationships and referral networks to support growth and community health.
Finance

Develop short- and long-range operational and capital plans aligned with organizational objectives.

Prioritize capital investments and evaluate projected return on investment.

Monitor budget performance, identify trends, and address variances.

Lead cost-effective clinical resource management and cost-reduction initiatives.

Ensure effective labor management, productivity, scheduling, and staffing to support safe patient care.

Qualifications
-
Minimum 5+ years of recent Director-level experience in Acute Care Emergency Services/Emergency Department leadership.

Experience leading Emergency Services in a Level I or Level II Trauma Center.

Experience managing Emergency Departments with 80,000+ annual visits.

Bachelor’s Degree required.
-
Master’s Degree (or approved education plan) required.

BSN required.
-
Active Registered Nurse license (state or compact).

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Emergency Services Overview
-
Oversight of Adult Emergency Department, Pediatric Emergency Department, and multiple Freestanding Emergency Departments.
-
High-volume adult and pediatric emergency services with seasonal variability.
-
Oversight of approximately 160 FTEs.

Multi-layer leadership structure including Directors, Managers, and Clinical Nurse Coordinators.
-
Role reports to senior nursing leadership.
